CEL with p72/s200 setup...Need a fix

Post by choobamonkey »

In a nutshell:

I have a 97 Prelude with a chipped p72/s200. It ran fine for a week, but out of the blue threw a CEL and had a very rough idle, and the car would sputter and kick if I went up to 4k rpms (I'm assuming limp mode) and would die when coming to stops. I reset the ECU and temporarily cleared the CEL problem only to have it come back and won't clear now.

I checked the code and got a Code 16 (injectors). I did some trial and error with my stock ECU and the p72 and here's what I got:
1. Plugged in stock P5M ECU, no codes, but won't run correctly since I have 550cc injectors installed
2. Plugged in P72 WITHOUT the Hondata unit, got a solid CEL, but no flashing codes (I'm guessing this would happen anyways since the s200 now controls the ECU)
3. Plugged in s200 to the P72 and got code 16

Going by this it seems that error is coming from the s200 and not from having faulty injectors or a bad ECU. My question is where do I go from here? Do I need to spend $xxx to have the Hondata software to go in and correct the error? I can't drive the car, so I can't take it to a licensed Hondata dealer to check it out...I'm stuck. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

No it is not...I'm currently in contact with the dealer that tuned this unit for the previous owner, and they are willing to burn a new chip with injector error turned off if I don't figure out the problem, which doesn't look promising.

However, I'm still puzzled as to why this would happen...any help is appreciated. Thanks!

If you have an injector error then it may be a wiring problem or a problem with an injector. I would suggest trying this ecu on another vehicle to see if the problem persists. If the probelm goes away then you know it is in the wiring or with teh injectors and needs to be fixed before you go any further.
