Hondata help

Just installed everything at once.. JRSC, Hondata, RC440s, Comptech Intake, oil cooler. Plus adjusted the valves (.007-.008), new timing belt, waterpump, wires, distrib... The cam's and crank were aligned at TDC.

Anywise I've run into a couple problems:

1) My Hondata datalogger never connects.. just says "connecting". I've tried this with several of the serial Com port selections. Also I'm noticing a constant red LED light from the Hondata unit. Should this be green? I'm not getting any engine codes. I've got the EPROM in and turned correctly and the circuit mods to the OBD1 were done for me on a Hondata modded unit. Anyone know what else to try?

2) The second problem I've run into is at around 3300 RPM the car sputters. It seems to run fine up to 3300 with good f/a ratio. After 3300 the f/a gets into the 15's. I'm not sure if I got a good starting map from my dealer (supposed to have come from a civicSI with similiar setup) or what else I can start checking. I've done all the Hondata recommened mods... RC440s, temp sensor, map relocator, removed JR fuel relay, etc... in addition to all JRSC installation steps and recommended mods. Anyone have a suggestion of where to start?

For question Number 1.

A. Check if you checked the right system in the HONDALOGGER in the ECU tab.
B. Check the COM PORT. FIFO buffer should either be enabled/disabled depending which system you are using. Read the readme section of the Hondalogger.
C. Check if you are using the correct COMPORT.

found problem .. three things

1. Evidently Hondata tells me there stuff doesn't work with a Dell's serial port

2. must select the correct COM port.. on my Compaq presario laptop I don't have a serial port so I bought a USB to serial adaptor. After installing drivers my USB mapped to COM5. I configured the data logger to this

3. Configured datalogger ECU type to OBD1 V3

data logging is now working .. sweet .. but whats with the Dell laptop problem. It's hard to believe that Dell's serial I/F is anything but standard.

For some reason about 90% of the problems we have with serial ports are from Dell laptops. I don't know if it is the hardware, or all the support software which they insist on loading their laptops with. Anyhow, it is possible to get datalogging working with Dells. The most common problem is a conflict with the internal modem, esp if it is a software modem. The second problem is not downloading updated software for the USB adapter. We're trying out a PCMCIA serial adapter on a Dell to see if that will work better. It's a little more expensive than the USB adapters but looks like it will fix most of the problem laptops.
