upload failed

Post by kani »

I get random upload failed messages. Sometimes more often than others, ranging from working most of the time to being really hard to get a map in. Tried different usb cables but the one I'm using seems to work best, stuck a magnet on the cable but it made things worse. It seems to help downloading a map and then uploading. Or downloading a few times and then uploading. Really strange. Datalog works fine all the time, no cut outs etc. no matter what. Different laptops, new kmanager installations.. no change.. quite annoying when tuning on the road. Didnt help to disconnect/reconnect the ecu.

Once when these problems started a few months ago, I had a great idea of clearing the ecu on the road, and then uploading, it took 15-20 minutes and 100s of tries to get a full map in the ecu.. I was about to call a tow truck :(. Then 2 weeks ago it started working OK, but is flaky again.

The led stops flashing on the ecu and a relay goes "click" at the same time as it says "upload failed" in kmanager. Is the timing very critical when uploading a map to the ecu via usb?? Can there be anything done in software?? Havent tried re-seating the daughterboard and/or cleaning its contacts to the ecu. Should this be next? I havent got any daughterboard communication errors.

This is more than likely a faulty installation by the person who installed your K-Pro. This K-Pro was not installed by Hondata. It will be a minimum of $100 for use to look at it and see if it can be repaired. IF you wish to do this please call and make sure you have everything in front of you and ready to troubleshoot over the phone.

could you send the details to me on e-mail on what to check? this ecu has worked fine for a long time until this problem came up. the e-mail address is on my profile. i need the car now so cant send the ecu anywhere overseas, so if anything can be done/checked out here that would be great.

This is not something that can be handled second hand. It must be handled by someone with experience in preparing these ecus. It will have to come back to Hondata for diagnosics and possible repair. It is also possible that the ecu is beyond repair.

how could the installation be faulty?? is this installer known to have made some shortcuts when installing kpro's to ecus?? or could the programmable chip in the ecu just be going?? is it replaceable??

doh, sending it overseas sounds bad. maybe if I dont need the car in the winter, I'll see what to do about it :(.

I notice that you said you are loading the KAL out on the road... Am I to assume you are using a AC/DC power inverter to power up your laptop.... OR are you running on the laptops battery power????
A friend of mine had a problem when using KManager when operating with an AC/DC power inverter and with the laptops battery power, but when he used KManager with the laptops power adapter plugged into a 120V sourche.... everything worked fine...

Just something to check...

I'm using it with the laptop battery, since I dont have a car adapter or an inverter. I'll try hooking up the laptop to an external power source with the mains adapter. But still something is wrong since it used to work flawlessly. Thanks for the idea!

Again, why are you suspecting installation fault, Hondata?? It worked well before in a friends car, probably for some time since its an early s/n. I bought it from him and it was ok for over an year in my car too.

This was not installed by Hondata so you will need to contact us for an RMA number as we have preveiously stated.
