No upload after engine swap

I have had K-pro for almost a year. My last engine went bad and I just previously installed a similiar engine. The difference between both engines is that my old engine was a base RSX k20a3 and the new engine is from a Civic Si k20a3. K-pro was working fine after I installed my engine and now that I put in a new MSD Map sensor, I went to tune it and Kpro does not give me the upload feature. I have updated both the software and drivers and still no success. What can it be?

In short:

If you don't get the 'Online' status as the bottom left, then it is USB drivers.

If you don't get 'Ignition On' status on the bottom left , then start checking engine grounds http://www.hondata.com/techk20swapgrounds.html. For some reason people never remember the ground on the timing cover engine mount, or they loop it in a circle so that it does nothing.

The "online" does come on but the "ignition on" does not. All grounds are where they should be because there really is no difference with the engines so the same motor mounts were used. I have 3 gounds connected, the first one comes from the battery which is connected to a bracket on the tranny, the second one is from the manifold which connects to the valve cover and the third one is on the motor mount and connects to the chassis. The only thing I can think of is that the ground from the motor mount connect directly to the engine instead of the chassis. What I dont understand is that is was working fine and now it is not and nothing new aside from changing the Map Sensor was done. I updated the software and I also updated the drivers with the ecu plugged in and still nothing. I checked all the fuses and there are no blown fuses. Is it possible that the ecu is fried?

It is always a possibility, but more than likely it is a ground problem. Any time you swap an engine there is the risk of damaging wires or of connecting them to the wrong place. Since grounds on a K-series engine are so important, it is very important to make sure that they are ALL right.

Make sure that the groudn on the engine mount is not just looping back without actually grounding to the engine itself. If it is on the wrong side of the rubber mount then it is doing nothing.

Well, I would really like to get to the bottom of this and just make sure it is/ is not a grounding issue. The only thing I can think of is to take pictures of where all the wires are grounded and post them. Spunskter thanks for putting up with me here and on CRSX, I just realized you answered me on that site as well. Im just all out of options. I rechecked all the grounding wires and all 3 are in their designated areas. My only question is, since I installed me new engine, I was able open up Kpro; now why all of a sudden does it not work?

If the ECU worked before the swap, but did not afterwards, then logically is was something you did when swapping the engine. We can only point you in this direction - you'll have to go over every single electrical change which was made, and review what was done. Also see http://www.hondata.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3629

There is a chance that powering the ignition on without a good ground return path from the ECU could have damaged it, but that is fairly rare.

Can you swap your ECU into another vehicle and eliminate the ECU/KPro as a source of the fault?
