Boost Control / Solenoid Problem

Post by Shmaa »

I have been running the integrated boost control since it was released. I use the GM boost solenoid and have it configured to low boost = spring pressure ~10psi, high boost = 15psi(normally achieve this with 25% duty).

The car has been sitting for approx 8 months, but it has been driven occasionally. I took it out the other day and decided to engage the high boost for whatever reason and to my dismay I got a whopping 10psi.

So I started troubleshooting; First I set the software to fixed duty cycle of 30% and I got the same 10psi, next 60% same thing 10psi. So I'm thinking something ate my wiring, but them why am I not overboosting?

I then decided to set the activation pressure of the solenoid to come on in vacuum so I could test at idle. When I did, the solenoid did indeed come on and as I increased the duty cycle it clicked faster. So the ECU is sending the signal and the solenoid is doing something with it.

As a last ditch effort to break something I disabled to boost control in the software and gave her hell. Normally under these circumstances I would get 15psi at like 4K rpm, but I received 12psi full tilt.

All of the vacuum lines look ok

Now I am thinking the solenoid is trashed or my wastegate (Tial 38mm) is fubared

Any insight would be great

Baed on your testing it apears there may be a problem elsewhere. You will have to go throuth the process of elimination to determine where the problem lies. Maybe you just have a kinked vacuum line, as I hav eseen that happen before.

Well I pulled off the boost solenoid and when I disconnected the vacuum line quite a bit of water came out.... Not sure how that happened and the main vacuum line going to the wastegate was dry...

Have yet to confirm if this is the issue
