- a datalog of a problem (as an attachment): yes
- what sort of vehicle you have: UK EP3 Civic Type-R
- what sort of ECU you are using: K-pro
- anything about the car which has been modified from stock which may affect the ECU (don't include what sort of rims you have nor stereo etc).

- a specific description of the problem
I am getting a high knock count at around 6500-7000 RPM @ 127-154kPa. I have tried reducing the ignition values in the suspect area by 2 deg twice with no reduction in knock count. Is there any other way to reduce the count?
The IAT temp is very low just now as it's pretty cold here. Would this cause more knock?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

your stock header maybe contributing to your knocks b/c of alot of backpressure... 1 thing I wuld try if i was you is trying adding some octane booster or if you can, fill up on a few gallons of 100 octane gas and mixing it in with your normal gas.. If it stops knocking, you know the ignition value are too high... Check ur a/f too..
Yeah, I know the stock header is a problem. Planning to act on that soon.Axix23 wrote:your stock header maybe contributing to your knocks b/c of alot of backpressure... 1 thing I wuld try if i was you is trying adding some octane booster or if you can, fill up on a few gallons of 100 octane gas and mixing it in with your normal gas.. I always fill with Shell V-Power (which is claimed to be 99RON) and two Dyno-tab maximum strength octane booster tablets. It expect should be over 100RON. The car was mapped on the Dyno with the same fuel mix. The mapper told me there was no or little knock when mapping and that superchargers give a lot of false knock but I'm a bit concerned.
I get 40 counts of knock with my jrsc in jdm ctr between 7 and redline. Tried retarding ignition up to 8 degrees with no drop in knock.
I was pretty sure it was phantom knock as the car still pulled strong and it didn't feel as I was ge3tting any knock.
I got a tuner to test it with Det cans at a dyno day and he said there was no knock that he could hear of let alone 40 counts.
I'm gonna change my exhaust manifold and intake and check my valve clearances to try and get to the bottom of it but loads of people with JRSC seem to get this phantom knock.
Would like to hear if Hondata have any ideas.

What difference will that make? I always fill with 99 RON plus octane booster so fuel will most likely always be at least 100 octane.Axix23 wrote:only way to find out if its a "phantom" knock is to use the same tune and run your gas level to E and fill up with 100 octane gas and then datalog again..
I'm going to do this the easy but expensive way, replace the stock header and get a re-tune. I'm wasting my time trying to resolve it myself!
What header are you getting? I've just ordered a Mugen one so can get MOTs easily. Hopefully be here and fitted in 3 weeks. Remap mid April. I'll be avoiding full throttle above 6000 rpm until then....fonz600 wrote:Yup I always run 99RON as well (Vpower) I'll let you know if changing my header, intake or valve clearances make any difference.
