HELP!!! Supercharged Prelude LOST 18WHP after S300 upgrade

Post by Sylverstreak »

I have a Jackson Racing 6psi SC 2001 Prelude (USDM). With the out of the box Jackson Racing EMS and stock injectors, the car made 212HP at the wheels (Dynojet dyno). I also have the Hondata Heat Shield installed. Since I had some annoying hesitation issues at part throttle, I upgraded to an S300 P-28 with 550cc RC injectors (JR fuel pump stayed on). I got the car tuned at a local Hondata approved shop (Auto Laminar) and netted 194HP at the wheels. Thats A LOSS of 18 WHP. What the heck is that?? I told them there must be something wrong, but they argued they dyno is OK (Dynapack dyno) vs my previous tune on the Dynojet.

It's not my imagination, the car burns ALOT of fuel and has no acceleration, not close to what it was before the S300. Here is my Hondata map and dyno graphs.

Please offer me some suggestions. Maybe a better tuner. I'm in Montreal Canada, but I am in Toronto every weekend.

You can't really compare numbers from one dyno to another, but the numbers you made do seem low. This could be from a great deal of factors, such as exhaust retrictions or a clogged cat, or even bad leakdown and compression. I would recommend that you go back to the tuner and have him do these simple checks and see of there is some other cause for the low numbers. If all those things check out ok, then it may be a tuning issue.

The car has a completely stock exhaust and roughly 30,000 miles. I can feel a difference in pull from what it was before the tune. It's quite less compared to the stock JR EMS. Does the Hondata MAP look funny to you? Anything?

There is nothign obvious in the calibration, but that does not mean it was tuned to it's fullest.

Sorry, no answers, just questions.

Do you have any more dyno data, like AFRs or pressure graphs?

Did you log the pulls either on the Dynapack or Dynojet?

What was different on the first (red) run on the Dynapack? All the curves are somewhat choppy, but especially that one. It almost looks as if there could be significant knock retard, but you've disabled the knock sensor.....

No I have no other data, just the graph. The AFR is a solid 12 to 1 all the way through if I remember correctly. The pulls with the S300 were done on the Dynapack.

Funny enough, I think I got screwed over at the tuners. I paid $30 on Preludepower for someone to creat me a base map so that I could get to the tuner because the map on this site was way off. The guy made the map SAFE just so I could drive without having issues. When I compare to the map after the tune on the dyno, they're exactly the same except the rev limiter. I think the tuner did nothing at all. If I post both maps here, can someone compare and confirm since I'm not sure exactly if I am comparing correcly.

I think the scale of the graph is what makes the curve look choppy. It seemed smooth on the laptop at the dyno.

I was recommended Neetronics in Toronto. Any comments? Is this a good place? I hate to have to pay out another $500 for a tune.

You really need to contact the tuner and discuss this with them.
