Random CEL while cranking car up and car instantly dies.....

Post by Axix23 »

Sometimes I will get random CEL when I try cranking the car up and the car will start up and instantly die.... And then when I shut it off and restart it, the CEL goes away and car starts up normally... 9/10 this happens right after I uploaded a new kal, but just last night, it happened while I was cranking up the car as normal and didn't upload any new kals for 2 weeks....

I am alittle stumped.. It happens so randomly that i haven't had a chance to use my labtop to pull what code it is...

Anybody ever have this issue before and anything? BTW, my battery is fully charged and 1 month old...

Next time retreive the error code before you erase it.

IF you get an error code, don't turn off the ignition and plug in the laptop and datalog to read the code.

I will next time if it happens... Another question is, lets say for some weird reason, its the low cranking amp's code, would the car still crank up?

Ok, it happened again today and I plugged my labtop to pull what cel code it was throwing.. There was no code to pull...(I do know how to pull codes) But 1 thing I noticed was that the green immbolizer key light kept flashing continuously in ignition II mode(it usually goes away in a few seconds when I turn the key on to II...

This leaves me to believe its a key/immbolizer issue.. Now, my immbolizer has been reprogrammed to match my new ecu... If the immbolizer wasn't reading the key properly or etc, it won't throw a cel I dont think..

Anyways, I turned the key off and back to ignition II and the cel and immboli key light went away....

I have tried to clear ecu and re-upload a KAL and also reprogram my immobilizer to match my ecu 1 month ago, but still doing the same thing... Like I said, it happens maybe 2-3 times a month maybe if that....

I called Hondata and talk to my co-workers @ Acura and all are clueless.. Please help.. Has anybody ever experienced this problem before???

Use a multimeter to check the battery voltage when cranking. YOu may need to do this everytime you start it to see the voltage when the problem happens.

i just installed the battery 2 months ago and tested the battery and it was fine.. If this indeed was a cel of daughterboard error, why would an immboli be flashing at this time??

And there is no code when the cel is on and immboli is flashing at ignit II... NO codes to be pulled...
