3rd Bad Hondata Chipped P28 ECU??????

Post by brockwelch »

Okay so heres the story. My car is an 01 Gsr with around 7,200 miles on the clock.
I have a fully built B18C1 Sleeved by GE, pistons, rods, headwork etc.

I am running hondata S100 with boost option / or trying to

So it starts like this. I hookup everything and the car starts right up, but is running rich due to the basemap and the 700+cc injectors. I also have a steady check engine light but thought it was because of the hondata ecu.

I drive the car 2.5 hrs to syracuse to have it tuned by Gruvytune. Upon attempting to connect gruvytunes laptop to my P28 I have smoke coming out of the ECU. It seems to have burnt the injector drivers some how.

I have to switch back to my stock ECU and baby the car back home with a trail of black smoke behind me.

I send the ECU back to hondata and they send me out a replacement. I hook it up and my car will start but the rpms keep climbing to over 6,000 rpm.

So this is the strange part if you unplug the map sensor the cars idle will drop back down to around 1,000 rpm and runs crazy rich.

I contacted Hondata and told them what was going on. I sent the ECU back to them and waited 2 weeks for a replacement unit.

I get the new ECU and it does the same exact thing. I am thinking that they just send me back the same one each time.

The only code that the ECU will throw is for the IAT sensor. Even with the map sensor unplugged it will not throw a code for the map sensor.

I have had Boosted Hybrid try to help me by coming up to my place twice but with no success. What is the problem here.

I need to get this car going asap. Anyones help is greatly appreciated. I will haul the car up to 2 hrs away to get fixed, if you can fix it and my stuff doesn't get jacked.

i'm going through some stuff like that on my p28....with the wiring ass backwards on my gm 3 bar map the ecu thought it was full throttle and ran crazy rich - with the new one (old one was damaged by that stunt) it gets the right voltage. so now what it does is run right up to where the throttle is substancially opened and goes all the way lean...it will do this in the parking lot or on the road and does not seemed to be tied to engine rpm. i'm suspecting the new throttle body that came with a new tps - might not be sending the right voltage. i also suspect my injectors - although i don't know what this would do , i put rc 440's in place of the 310's which came with my vortech sc , but i can't be sure if they're high or low impedance....i'll check the ohms , but i would assume my car '97 gsr would have had low impedance....if i had high's in there would it even run ? also is there a voltage for wot on the tps...i know .45 shut , but what open ? i really should check the tps as it's one of the last things and DID come as a replacement to my other one as part of the tb.
it's been broke and i been trying to fix it

The injector drivers will not burn by itself. Could be something wrong with your wiring shorting out.

Is your 700cc injector saturated or peak and hold. The low resistance of the injectors could cause the injector drivers to burn. You miht need a resistor box.

I have been using an OEM honda resistor pack the entire time. Everything is wired correctly and checks out when tested.

Is it possible you have the MAP and IAT connectors switched?

Nope... IAT has two wires and MAP has 3 wires. Maybe you meant mixing up MAP and TPS. But I think it is hardly the case.

I'd trace the wiring again and open it up. Since you are using a non stock injector I think you replaced the injector clips along with the resistor box install.

If you find out whats wrong let us know.

We have also experienced an IAT sensor that went bad.

you said you are using the resistor pack. if those injectors are saturated(high impedence) then you are increasing the resistance much to high for the ecu to handle.
check the resistance on the injector. if its 11ohms or higher, then they are saturated.
