USB, Vista and datalogging issues

Post by bacchus418 »

Hey all,
I just installed my Kpro a few days ago and I'm attempting to get a 3rd gear datalog so I can get started on tuning my A/F and knock. I have two laptops available to do the datalogging.

One laptop is brand new, 2.2 Ghz, 2 gig ram, Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I installed Kmanager but when I direct Windows to the KManager folder during the driver install, it can not locate the driver. So, I use my other laptop...

1.6Ghz, 1 gig ram, Win2kPro, USB 1.0 (not sure if that makes a difference). This one will datalog just fine in real time but as soon as I start recording on my 3rd gear pull, it will lose the USB connection, happens every time. I tried using a different, brand new USB cord, same thing happens. I've tried shutting down all background applications, no luck there either. Please help!

KManager will not work on Windows 2000 nor Vista 64 bit. It will work on XP or Vista 32 bit.

LOL!! Well that's just great. Then how is it that it will datalog just fine until recording begins?

Normally that indicates bad electrical grounds or non-resistor spark plugs.

BTW, K-manager 1.1.2.8 will work on Windows 2000 and also Windows 95.... I have edited on Windows 95 and have done datalogging and uploads with Windows 2000 with no problems for 2 weeks...

I checked all my electrical grounds and they're good. I also confirmed my spark plugs are resistor type. I went out and bought a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card so we'll see if that works. Any idea where I can get that version of KManager? Thanks!

Older versions of software will not work. YOu should always use the newest version.

For those who are interested, the USB 2.0 PCMCIA card worked. I was able to datalog and record just fine, no problems whatsoever. I'm still running Win2KPro service pack 4, XP or Vista 32 bit was not necessary.
