Cannot Communicate with S300

Post by ttangkong77 »

I've recently had the S300 installed in my car, 2000 GS-R w/ JRSC.

I had the car tuned, by a professional, who already had the latest version of the software. Everything was fine until I started hitting boost cut at WOT.

Curious to see what the engine was doing, I installed the software on my laptop, followed all directions accordingly, and plugged the USB cable to the S300 and the laptop. Turned the Key to on but the computer never picked up the new hardware.

After trying this, I started the car and it seemed as if the ECU was "resetting" itself (?). Kind of hard to explain, but it was beeping, and the CEL was flashing, and then the car just died.

After that, the engine starts fine, drives without a problem, but I can't rev past 4K rpm. The laptop still won't recognize the S300 and when the program is started, it says "off-line" on the bottom left corner. I tried uninstalling the program and started out fresh, but still laptop won't recognize the s300.

Can anyone help me out? If you need more detailed information, please let me know what else I should include.

BTW, the unit was purchased directly from Jackson Racing (Moss Motors) and they said the S300 was received directly from Hondata.

Thanks in advance.

At the top of Smanager, click on Help, Contents, and under s300 installation, follow the instructions for installing usb drivers.

What exactly was beeping?

As a matter of fact, now that I think of it, it must have been my gauges beeping... but the CEL did blink a few times before the engine shut off on its own.

Also, I installed all the USB drivers and updated everything I could. Still no communication between laptop and S300. Just in case, I did check all my USB ports with other devices to make sure they are working, and they're fine.

I did read about a red light and green light on the S300. are they both supposed to be lit? or just the green one?

Only the green one is lit.

Thanks,

Nothing shows up under the device manager.

I've tried looking at all of them and S300 doesn't show up.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of firmware and software downloaded from this website. I followed all directions, plugged the usb cable into the laptop and into the S300, turned the ignition key to the ON position, yet still nothing.

I checked again the USB under windows device manager, and none of my USB ports recognize any new hardware.

It has been less than 30 days since I received my unit, so can I send it back to troubleshoot the problem? I don't want the 30 days warranty to expire on me while I wait around for answers in this forum.

Thanks. Anyone that had similar problems, or exact same problems, please leave your input on this. All help is appreciated.

Don't worry about the warranty expiring.

Check the ground point near the thermostat housing, the main battery cable ground, the starter motor ground and also the timing cover ground. Pull them off and make sure they are onto clean bare metal.

With the laptop at first try it without a power inverter, as sometimes they create a ground loop.

Plug in the S300, check the device manager to see if it shows the S300. If you get any clicking (the beeping?), or the lights on the dash do strange things, then stop, as you're getting some sort of ground problem.

Thanks,

Happy Thanksgiving, by the way. I've checked all ground connections as you told me, and I've tried using the laptop (freshly reformatted) and for some reason it still won't recognize the USB.

Windows Device Manager still reads nothing. I've updated USB, used the latest version 1.3.1, of Smanager, still nothing.

Can I send in my unit to have you guys check it?

Also, since I have no problems with the ECU, and I have an extra p28 ready for an s300, how much would it cost to replace just the s300 without an ECU?

Can you give me some suggestions as to what I can do? Please help me out.
