Tuning ignition help.

Post by twinkam »

How do I street tune ignition without a dyno ? Or is that the only way to tune ignition? Well correct me if I am wrong but can I just keep advancing by two degrees until the knock sensor picks up knock then start retarding ignition? I know that too much ignition advance detonates and causes knock and retarding too much rises exhaust gas temperatures. So how can I tell what is too much or too little and what is safe :?:

Optimum ignition timing is not always going to be determined by the onset of knock. You can steet tune to remove knock from any areas which are over advanced, but the only way to tune for power is on the dyno.
