New to Kpro - issues.

Post by chadvandonkey »

Hi,

I've just installed a PRA kpro into my 2004 UK EP3 which is modified with just an AEM CAI and Mangex back box and am having the following problems both of which I've seen mentioned on here:-

Surging idle whilst on choke from cold. The idle speed ramps right up to 2000rpm initially and goes up and down randomly as the car warms up. Once warm the problem is almost gone but the idle speed does not remain 100% constant - generally between 750-1000rpm.

This weekend I will clean out the idle valve as per the sticky. Weird thing is that it did not do this before fitting the kpro

Second problem is the engine pushing on when decelarating i.e. accelerating to say 4000rpm then taking your foot off the gas and letting the engine slow down on it's own then every so often it feels as if you have just dabbed the accelerator pedal so it lunges forward for a split second whilst you are decelerating.

Currently I have not had the kpro tuned specifically to my car as I'm waiting until I have a full catback exhaust fitted.

Our UK Hondata specialists have told me to run the "civictypertuned" map in k-manager until I have a full tune up done. This is the only map that I'm using.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the car now has a coulpe of annoying faults that were not there on the standard ECU (which I still have).

P.S. My factory fit ECU is a PRA-E12 and my kpro is a PRA-E11 - does this make any difference?

Thanks.

Stu.

Thre is no difference in the ecus you have. First clean the idle valve. Beyond that I would suggest getting it tuned as soon as possible.

Hi,

I've just uploaded the "civictyperfactory" map to run the car on the default settings and the idle speed problem is still there when on choke.

There is no problem at all when I swap back to the factory fit standard ECU - other than the car is a lot slower!!

I haven't cleaned out the idle valve because the car runs fine on the standard ECU and I don't know where it is either.

Have you tried adjusting the idle parameters in the software?

In a word no. I have left the default idle speed at 750rpm which is exactly as it was with the factory ECU.

I don't understand what the "Idle Valve Duty Cycle Adjustment" does hence I've not altered it on the basis that if I'm not sure don't mess.

It's strange that this surging only occurs when the choke is on (from cold).

Should I tick the "disable ignition retard when the engine is cold" checkbox? Is this anything to do with my problem.

Thanks for your help.

From the help file found in Kamanager at Help, Contents:

Idle Parameters
Previous Top Next

Idle speed parameters.

Idle Speed - Sets the hot idle speed.
Disable idle valve - Disables the idle valve error checking if no idle valve is present.

Idle Valve Duty Cycle Adjustment - alters the idle valve duty cycle feedback with a proportional adjustment based on the slider position. If the idle tends to dip too low when releasing the throttle, increase the slider. If the idle speed tends to hang too high, decrease the slider.

The idle target lambda sets the air fuel ratio while hot idling. With large injectors it may be necessary to enrichen the hot idle to prevent lean misfires.

Make sure your Throttle Position (TPS) is reading 0 when your foot is off the throttle and 100% when the throttle is fully pressed (you can do this with the engine off). If it's reading higher you will have to "scale" the TPS by going into Parameters -> Knock/TPS and setting the Minimum reading. Look up the procedure in the help file as I don't know it off the top of my head.

That fixed a bunch of my issues.
