Car Running Weird **Please Help**

Post by Hondatuner87 »

Okay i have a 2002 Honda Civic Si. I swapped a 2002 k20a2 from a rsx-s into my hatch. Also did the 6speed trans. Anyways i need your guys help, the car is running very weird and me and my friend aren't sure whats wrong. I am running the hondata kpro ecu. The car idles fine, but once i start to give it gas it hesitates to accelerate right around 2,000rpm's in ANY gear. Almost seems like the cars not getting fuel. We think its a bad tps but were not sure. Im not getting a check engine light. However i am throwing a error code in kpro; ELD electronic load detector HIGH VOLTAGE. In kpro my tps% reads 0% whether i am on the gas all the way or just a little bit. It doesn't read throttle at all. But i am not getting any error code about the TPS...just the error code about the ELD. We first started to assume that it might be a possibility that my ecu was bad so we plugged in my friends kpro ecu, loaded my calibration and STILL got the ELD error code. Anyone have any idea of what the problem could be? Is it possible that my tps could be bad and its throwing that ELD code? I know the tps is a load so it would make sense that i would be getting the Electronic Load Detector code...but it doesn't make sense that the car's not reading throttle and im not getting a TPS error code in kpro. Thank you for your time and reading all this. Please help me!!!

Don't overllok the obvious - check the master ground is on the cylinder head, the transmission ground and the ground on the engine mount.

A bad TPS doesn't normally give an error code - it just sticks at a certain value. If it stays at 0% when you apply throttle, then it is bad. As for the ELD, for the TPS first, then look at the Helms manual to track down the fault. I've never seen an ELD go bad, so I'm guessing it is caused by some other fault.

I am curious, did you resolve your issue?
I have the same symptoms with my car, it loses power from 1800-2000rpm.

Nope still haven't, but theres a reason why. I sold my old motor to Phil at Intercrew (its a shop down here in texas), anyways we called him a week and a half ago to see if he would sell me the t/b off of my k20a3. He agreed to, so we waited a few days to head up to the shop (like 2 days becase we called him on a saturday night so we waited till tuesday when i was off work. Anyways to cut to the chase he ended up not showing up to the shop on tuesdays, we called him wednesday he said come in thursday. He also said he'd have the t/b taken off the old motor and ready for us to take it. So my friend called me thursday pissed off saying that quote on quote "doesn't want to part out the motor anymore" ... so i waited a week for pretty much nothing, when i was originally going to order the t/b off of the internet. So we ordered the t/b last friday, it came here today. Were installing it tomorrow or sunday.

Cliff Notes:
- guy i sold my k20a3 to agreed to sell the t/b to me
- week later decides he doesn't want to part out the motor anymore
- i waited a week for nothing
- i was originally going to buy the t/b off of the internet

***UPDATE***

Installed the t/b today, and what do ya know. Fixed all the problems, except that ELD Electronic High Voltage error still pops up. But it reads tps% and it drives fine now. Doesn't drive all jerky like before. So for the ones that have the same symptoms as i did, it is very likely that your tps is broke if it reads 0% in kpro.
