S300 USB Connection

Post by VtecF20 »

I'm having connection issues between my laptop and the S300j unit. After turning the key to ignition 2 and booting up the laptop the light on the S300j initially flashes a red light then followed by a steady green. The laptop shows no communication as fas as USB connections. I went through the USB trouble shooting procedure on the S-manager program and tried all the basic steps as far as rebooting my computer, resetting the ecu, and reinstalling the S-manager program. I'm using a HP Pavillion notebook with Windows XP Home edition with the Hondata supplied USB cable that came with the S300j package. I also checked to verify the J4 jumper was removed. Can this issue possibly be related to a faulty socketing or are there any further trouble shooting procedures?
The ecu is a JDM P72 sockected with the S300j through a local Hondata authorized dealer. The vehicle is a 94 Prelude Si with a JDM H22A swap with modified internals, stock ignition and injectors.

Do you see 'Online' at the bottom left of the screen when you plug the USB cable in? If you can't, run 'Help->Test USB'. If you can, can you bring up the s300 information with 'Online->Information'?

ALso check to see what changes and shows up in the Windows Device Manager when you plug and unplug the USB cable while the key is in the on position.

On the bottom left of the screen t shows 'Offline' when the USB is plugged in. I ran the Test USB and got an error message "No compatible USB devices found". I tried both USB ports on my laptop and they both give me the same message.
When I plug and unplug the USB cable while the key is in the on position nothing changes on the screen.
Just to make sure I'll try another computer and see if it duplicates the issue.

In the wondows control panel, please open system properties, click on the hardware tab and select devce manager. Please tell us what shows up in the device manager when you unplug and plug back in the s300 with the key in the on position.

When I'm in 'device manager' and the USB is plugged in with the ignition 'on' Hondata S300j shows up. When the USB is unplugged this goes away. When I opened this file it showed up "device manager not installed".

Correction on the last post. In 'Device Manager' I open the 'Hondata S300 ECU (jdm)' file I get a prompt that reads:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

When I go through the installation process it bring s up:

The file ?ftdibus.sys? on Smanager Installation Directory is needed.
Type the path where the file is located, and the click OK.

I initially downloaded the Smanager program from the CD that was included with the S300j. Then I updated the file by downloading version 1.2.9.0 from Hondata's web page.

Are you allowing it to find ftdibus.sys?

IN SManager, go to Help, click on Contents, and find Installaion. Follow the instructions for installing the USB drivers from there and you should not have any further problems.

Do I need to have my laptop connected to the S300 while I'm going through the installation process for the USB drivers?
