My goal is to get an S2000 cluster working on a future swap. I'm confused about a number of things. Such as the term "new VSS signal" which don't necessarily mean the 05-06 VSS signal. I assume they refer to the 02-04 signal? Or is that irrelevant as the 05-06 ECU sends out a low frequncy signal too? http://www.k20a.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24320
Does the S2000 cluster take the same VSS signal sent directly from the 02-04 VSS or from the 05-06 ECU? That link I posted seems to imply the clusters accept the same (low frequency) VSS signal. If I understand correctly, the early RSX's grab straight from the VSS while the 05-06 grabs the converted high to low frequency signal from the ECU.
I've been poking around on ClubRSX and there's a lot of OLD and conflicting info (mostly speculation and references to the Concept R). Also some people are saying the mileage will be off (guessing that it's stored in the cluster's memory). Maybe I'll just run the constant speed thing with my ignition on while parked until I'm about right. :)
The site http://www.dscustoms.com/s2000cluster.htm claims that the S2K cluster works on the K-series transmissions. Since he makes these converters, I'll lean towards his claims. The swap may force me to go smaller than OEM RSX tire size. I don't need that product with the K-Pro, right? Since there's a speedometer correction setting? My concern is that the K20A2 VSS signal is split and the cluster will read differently than the K-Pro.
Been also reading on the VSS signal from the transmission side of things.

If I had all the K20A2 hardware but with a K20Z1 transmission could I stick with a 02-04 K-Pro somehow? Maybe just turn that countershaft option on? Would I need to worry about the harness? As you noticed, I'm picky. I want my K-Pro to work with OBD-II so I don't want to get mostly 05-06 hardware (but I don't want to NOT go for a swap even more so it's still under consideration).
Also, is there a difference in how the AP2 cluster plugs in (vs. the AP1)?
Writing this post did help me even if I have no answers yet. I'm going to play with the constant speed thingy in my 02 RSX-S and see what happens.
K-Pro with S2000 gauge cluster?
Dang... Wanted to play with the speedometer correction but only works on 05-06 trannies. :( And the constant speed thing only sets it to constant speed on K-Pro and K-Manager. This seems to jive with the VSS signal split.
Looks like I may have to get that converter if I stick with the K20A2 tranny. I'll assume it has to go in before the split... Or get an 05-06 tranny for the swap. Would I have to get more than the wire harness? :( Already have 02-04 K-Pro.

But the 05-06 RSX converts the high frequency to low frequency at the ECU before it goes to the cluster.
From what I seem to recall, the S2000 VSS signal is high frequency coming out of the VSS. I believe the S2K cluster itself takes a low frequency but I don't recall for sure. I'm assuming something converts that signal before it gets to the cluster.
At the moment, it looks like I'll have to get an adaptor. :( BTW, I found the site to the other converter (the Yellow Box) I've heard about. It's http://www.yellr.com.
I guess I could get an 05-06 tranny but then I lose OBD-II via K-Pro even though everything else is 02-04. Doesn't the 02-04 K-Pro have an unused ECU out line too? I still can't use the speed correction without enabling the countershaft option though.

You need to get a convertor from these guys.
