Idling problem

Post by OrangeSi2K »

I have a 2000 Civic Si, w/ ls/v-tec. The car runs and idles fine until I beat on it. After the car is warmed up and I push the gas hard the car will then idle at like 3 - 4 thousand rpm's. Sometimes if I turn the car off and then back on the rpm's are normal, but other times that doesnt work. Very annoying and loud. I have no idea what the problem is, I guess it could be a vaccum leak, but I've searched and searched with no findings. I've jumped the sensors and the problem is still there. Changed out the iacv and its still there. The only other thing that I can think of is that I need a new ecu, but that'd be an expensive test. Anyone with any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Doesn't sound like a vaccum leak to me as that would make it not want to idle at all. There is an idle sensor that may have gone bad and is not telling the computer to idle down.

Mechanically,it sounds like a stucked throttle plate.remove, inspect and clean your throttle body.if you're using an OEM bored-out TB, chances are the plate will seize at closed position.check your accelerator cable position and installation for kinks.try to lubricate the inner surface with WD40..software may be last on your list to rectify the problem..
