p72 to p28 Question

Post by b18flip »

Will a 3b tuned using a p28 ecu work on a p72 ecu?? Reason i ask is that i'm thinking of buying a tuned 3b which was using a p28 chip on a b18c, but i have a p72 on mine

I'm not sure if I understand the question. But you cant use a P28 Hondata rom in a P72 ECU. You need a P72 ROM with a basemap from any ECU. Then tuning it on the dyno is very important.

Awesome another pinoy on the board...LOL. I meant to say that i'm running an obd1 p72 ecu on my gsr. Someone is selling me a hondata 3b tunned on his b18c which was using an obd1 p28 ecu and a JRSC. I'm also running the same setup on my car q/ a JRSC, just w/o the 3b. I was wondering if i could just hook up the 3b to my p72 ecu or if i'd have to go w/ a p28 ecu to run his setup. Or should i just have it dyno tuned anyway...I'm just trying to save a lil $$ cuz i'm low on funds. Thanks

You could install the 3B with no problems in your P72. However, you can't use the p28 Chip in the P72. You would need a dealer to burn a basemap for your P72 ECU.

Don't scrimp on the tuning part. I saw a cracked cylinder wall just because it wasn't tuned right. and don't forget not all engines are the same. You may have the same set up but it doesn't mean that both engine will behave exactly the same.

I've tried it before, but you CAN use a p28 ROM in your p72..

ALso, if you decide to use the p72, you have to have it modified for Hondata before you can just 'plug in' the 3b.

actually, The p28 rom works quite well in the p72 ecu. The p72 roms have a hesitation issue and if you run a single runner manifold like the skunk2 then i highly recommend the p28 rom in the p72. It gives a very smooth acceleration and idle that I just can't achieve with the p72 rom no matter how hard I have tried.
