setting base timing problem

Post by SOHC_STUDENT »

I took a friend for a drive last night and the car was real real slow. Took it back to the garage and put a timing light on it.

At idle the engine is firing at like 4 degrees retarded?!?! So I think, no big deal, I'll just open up the "Set Timing" box and clock the dizzy until it it's 16 advanced.

So I clock the dizzy towards the firewall but the most I can get it to advance is approx 4-6 degrees advanced.

Would opening the "Set Timing" box while the car is driving cause this? if so oops...

How do I get it back to normal? ie. 16 degrees advanced at idle?

Try uploading a new calibration and then clicking on the set timing and set your distributor to 16 using a timing light.

I had the same problem when I first tried t use mine. I can't remember the version I had, but I put the old one back in and it worked. I think the newer version has it fixed as well.

I'm using version 1.2.7 of smanager

I have a feeling that I may have opened the "Set Timing" box while the car was driving...

ok I tried a new config (itb.skl) but even with the distributor clocked all the way towards the firewall I can only advance the spark to about 20 retarded with the Set Timing box open.

I double checked the cam belt timing to make sure I didnt slip a tooth and it looks good. When the crank is in the TDC position the cam gear is in the UP position and the horizontal lines on the cam gear line up with the head.
