CEL but no codes...won't hook up with laptop when CEL is on.

Post by godzilla77 »

First, I have a 98 Civic ex with a JR supercharger, 540cc RC injectors, and the S300 with data logging.

This problem has been going on for a while, but recently it has gotten to the point where it will happen almost everytime the car is started. Car will be running fine and then the CEL comes on. When this happens the car runs very rich and won't go over about 3500rpm with no power. I plug in the labtop while the car is running with the CEL on to try and read the CEL. It will show that the usb is plugged in but will not read any parameters from the ecu or show me the CEL. It seems like the ecu has locked up. When I shut the car off and turn it back on, I can sometimes get the ecu to hookup. When it finally does link up it still will not show the CEL and when I download the calibration from the ecu it sometimes gives me a calibration that is all over the place. I have to upload my old calibration from the computer and it will work for a while. If I did not give you enough information please let me know and I can try to get you everything you need.

Oh I did read your sticky on possible problems and checked them all.

3500 rpm = 3200 rpm = limp mode. This signifies that the ECU socketing is faulty.

If it is a socketing problem what would be my next step? The car was at my local Hondata dealer for these problems for a couple of months with no cure.

Who socketed the ECU originally?

I would assume Hondata...bought everything from Jackson Racing and they said they buy it from Hondata

Call us about diagnosing the ECU. Who was the local dealer who looked at the ECU?
