VTEC System Malfunction after Reflash

Post by michaelb83 »

About 2 weeks after getting the reflash, my check engine light came on and the code 1259 corresponds to a vtec system malfunction. The CEL has been coming on and off intermittently, and when it is on, the car goes into safe mode and cannot rev above 3000 rpm. Did the reflash cause a problem with vtec? Do I need to get the ecu reprogrammed again, or is there something that can be done mechanically to fix this problem?

It is not the reflash. Code 1259 is the VTEC oil pressure.

When does the code come on? Just after VTEC switches? In this case it could be from low engine oil pressure, so check you oil level before you do anything else. Otherwise check the oil pressure switch connector, and check that the ECU connectors are latched correctly.

VTEC malfunction

Post by michaelb83 »

I checked the oil, etc. and everything seems fine. The check engine light does not come on when vtec engages. It comes on sometimes soon after I start the car and drive around slowly at speeds of 25-30 mph. Other times it comes on right when I start the car. Any other ideas that you may have would be very helpful.
