No speed sensor?

Post by Russell T »

Got a bit of a problem with my k20 DC2, just put a spoon LSD into the gear box but i didn't get a new speed sensor wheel/cog with the diff and the oe one is not compatible as the teeth on the diffs are different. I'm struggling to get hold of a replacement. Can the speed sensor be disabled in K manager and the car still work as it should, not bothered about the speedo working as its a race car anyway. What does it mean in k manager when it says about 'receiving a constant speed signal' Car is not running at the moment as i need to refit the box and a few other bits so cant test it out, i know the ecu normally relies on speed sensor for vtec operation etc. Can anyone help me out? For reference the engine is a Euro civic type-r k20a2 and 6 speed transmission in my dc2 integra. Thanks.

Taken from the help file:

"No speed sensor - check this option if you do not have a speed sensor input. The vehicle speed will be set to a constant 80 kph / 50 mph. Note that using this option is only recommended if there are no other alternative, as the speed signal is important for the correct operation of the ECU. You will not be able to use the reverse lock out. If at all possible, use a speed sensor input."

Will I still have VTEC without the speed sensor?

Just to clarify... What features of the ECU am I going to miss without the speed sensor?

I understand that I won't have reverse lockout but the docs imply that I won't be able to use VTEC without the speed sensor. Is that correct?

The first couple I can think of:

VTEC
Corrent closed loop operation.
OBDII tests.
Gear compensation.
Over run cut off.
Correct temperature compensation.
Correct target AFs.

... and there are about 30 more. For a race car it is less important, but you should still get the speed sensor working.
