Couple Kpro questions

Post by zach_04lx »

Hi,

I just have a couple questions about the Kpro, but first here's a little background information about my vehicle:

2004 USDM Civic LX coupe with a JDM K20a ITR (stock except for AEM V2 air intake and a DC sports exhaust).

1. I was sent the PRC ECU that goes with the K20a ITR, but when I sent it off to have the Kpro installed, I was told it couldn't be done. I was told that it was one of the few PRCs that couldn't take the Kpro. He sold me a PND ECU instead. Is there any problem with using the PND instead?

2. I am throwing a check-engine light (CEL) with the error code P1166. I know you can disable P1167, but that doesn't help me.

3. To go along with my CEL from above, I don't get any A/F ratio when I datalog. I'm guessing that I might not have the primary O2 sensor wired in correctly, but I'm not sure.

4. I am just using the stock K20a-itr.kal calibration and everything seems to be pretty nice on that. However, my AEM A/F ratio gauge says that I'm running a little lean when I'm in 6th gear on the highway at cruising speeds (around 100 km/h and above). The gauge says between 15.5 and 16.2, but I'm not sure how accurate it is--thus why I would like to have my datalogging work for A/F.

Thanks, and sorry for the stupid newbie questions.

1. The KPro board can be installed into either the PRC or PND ECU. You were incorrectly informed if you were told that some PRCs cannot be adapted. The PND will work apart from the lack of reverse lock out.

2. P1166 = the wiring harness or oxygen sensor is faulty. Fix it, don't disable it.

3. As above.

4. As above.

What is the K-Pro serial number? (inside the ecu)

I'm not sure of the serial number, but I can take the ECU out and look on Friday. Is there a way to figure out whether it is the primary O2 or the harness (without buying and testing a new O2)? If not, could it be that it is simply wired in incorrectly? Also, I usually drive around for a minute or two before the CEL comes on; don't know if that gives you anymore information or not.

Thanks so much for your help, and I will get that serial number in the next day or so.

You could check your wiring with the wiring diagram here: http://www.hondata.com/techk20wiring.html

Thanks for the wiring diagram. I'm going to get my car on a lift and check this (hopefully today). I'll let you know what I find out. :)

After months of trying, I can't seem to figure out this problem. I have purchased a new primary O2 sensor and wired it up according to the wiring diagram. Are there any other recommendations of the next step to take? Are there any other possible problems that could be causing my P1166 CEL and lack of AFR on datalogs?

It also says that the voltage for the Primary O2 sensor is 0.00, so I know that it isn't even being seen by the K-Pro.

Any help would be great.

Thanks again,
Zach

Under dash fuse #2 is connected to the A/F sensor, and there is an A/F sensor relay behind the glove box.

A 2004 Civic LX comes standard with a wideband O2 sensor. It is compatible with the K-Pro. YOu should already have the wiring in place for this.

I just checked that fuse and it is fine. I bought the O2 sensor from the JDM K20a-R and am using that. I looked again, and my AEM AF gauge runs off of the secondary O2 sensor, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought wideband O2 sensors were 5-wire, not 4, like I have.

I think sometime this upcoming week I'm going to just wire in an O2 sensor and run it directly into the ECU via the door (just to test).

Any other suggestions or thoughts?

The stock wideband in an RSX is 4 wire as is all oxygen sensors in 04 and 05 Civic LXs.
