2000 Civic Si/S200 starting problem

Post by se93 »

We installed an S200 system into a 2000 Honda Civic SI (B16A) and have a strange problem going on. The car runs perfectly with no problems, starts up fine in the morning (completely cold) but after you start the car, drive it around and turn it off for a while (lets say 30 minutes)it will stall and not start when trying to restart the engine after this time period. The owner has to depress the gas pedal and the engine continues to stall until he either gives up and restarts or the engine manages to start up slowly. After that, the engine runs perfectly with no check engine lights, no blinking S200 interface box lights and no signs of what is going on.

We are using the B16NA tune in the Hondata tunes library along with an OBD2-OBD1 conversion harness. I have used this tune previously in other 1999-2000 Civic Si's and have all functioned perfectly and no problems of this sort whatsoever.

We replaced the following:

a brand new S200 box for another brand new S200 box
brand new OBD2-OBD1 for another new one
Interface cable
29C256 chip
We used two P28 ecu's (guy that sold him the first unit, gave him another)

By the way, the Civic SI is completely stock, except for a JDM DC Sports header. Stock injectors, stock everything.

What is going on here? Has anyone encountered such a problem?

Regards,
Mark

What injectors are you using?

in themean time try disconnecting the purge valve for the charcoal canister...on integras this is located on the firewall.

I have the exact same problem on a 98' JRSC'd GSR... Are you suggesting just straight lining the hose to the canister, or a complete removal of the valve?

Hi guys:

It turns out that the OBD2-OBD1 conversion harness was defective. We tried another harness and the car has been functioning perfectly since then. No problems whatsoever.

Problem is that I'm not running a harness... I'm running one of Hondata's P28s fitted with OBDIIa conectors... straight plug and play.

I have same problem right now with my 96 Integra gsr..... I converted my ecu with obd1 p72 ecu with dinan chip and I also can't start my car after driving for about 30 minutes. Could it be the obd2 to obd1 harness too???? Also when I start my car in the moring (cold engine) I can hear the charcoal canister sucking lots of air (under the car) its almost louder than the intake. But when my engine warms up it dissappears. Can anyone help me with this????? PLEASE

Which hose do I need to unplug? by the intake manifold or by the canister? Does your car start fine now even after driving for about 30 minutes? no more hard starting? Thanks Zues!

Why can no one ever spell my name? :?

...not the hose... the plug on the purge valve... just unplug it and zip tie it (in a safe place). I went a step futher and sealed both connectors with black silicon to keep them clean if I ever had to plug them back together.
