p28 ecu: auto to manual?

is it possible to change an auto ecu to a manual ecu without chipping? i am currently running an auto ecu on my y8 but am getting tired of the check engine light being on b/c of the neutral lock out thing? is there a way to do this? i have electrical skills and what not. thanks for any help givin.

if you have a d16y8 i assume you are running obd2, and i've yet to see a way to convert an obd 2 auto to manual... obd 1 instructions can be found in the download section in the installation instructions
