V-tec dip still there

V-tec dip still there
I just installed my Hondata reflash #4 and I went for a test drive. First impression, TORQUE! Much better. Next impression, why do I still have a horrible V-tec dip at 5500 rpm? I had dyno'd the car before the Hondata with the AEM CAI and Thermal Exhaust and I had a V-tec dip so bad the shop owner said, "you could tell when you hit the juice." I ran it in 4th gear and the whp went from about 175 at 4700 to 110 at 5500 then to 80 WHP at 5750 then a straight shot up to 178 at 5800! I am sorry I could not scan the dyno to show, but the dip then was bad and it is still there. I feel it at about 5500 rpm. The v-tec change over made the car very 'jerky' from 5000-6000 rpm. Besides that the Hondata is awesome. I know since the dip was there prior to the Hondata, it is probably not the problem. I was wondering why my dyno sheet looks so different from other stock dyno sheets? Now that I have Hondata I can't take my car to the dealership to get it looked at. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey dude I had the same problem because I was activating VTEC at 4500 RPM so I set it at 5500 and problem solved. For some reason if you switch to the high cam at a low RPM the engine becomes very slugage for about 1000 rpm's and then regains power.

175 whp at 4700 rpm? Should that be 74 whp?
Put the stock air intake and header back on to see if they are causing the problem.

It's actually more like 180 whp at 4700, I am holding the Dyno in my hand. I do have the 5200 torque/hp crossover and it was a Dynojet SAE corrected. It also tails off at 7400 rpm. The chart would be great if it weren't for the dip between 4700-5800. I have stock headers. I do not want to put the stock airbox back on b/c of the work involved plus I would have to go to my dads, 2 hours away, put the stock air intake on, come back to Memphis, Dyno, go back to my Dads and put the CAI back on. Just too much work and money b/c I can't afford to Dyno tune. The only way I can Dyno is when the Memphis Racing Scene has 'Dyno days' and we get 3 pulls for $50 with only MINOR tuning between Dynos.Hondata wrote:175 whp at 4700 rpm? Should that be 74 whp?

180 whp @ 4700 rpm? Hmmm volumetric efficiency must be about 170% - 180% at that point - not possible without forced induction.

hmm maybe their dyno needs some serious recalibration. The reason why I say is that no VTEC dip that I have ever seen drops by almost 100 whp!?BlacktypeS wrote:ok then, I'll try to get my dyno scanned. I would have assumed you were all motor but from what it seems like you just have I/E and not much else. So I can not see where you'd get 174 whp at 4700 rpm..
with my forced induction setup, at stock boost I didn't see more than 120 whp at 4700 and at 9 psi no more than 140 whp!
bad dyno, otherwise with they're current dyno i'd be hitting 300 whp right now

i know i'm getting in on this one a little late but i've got nothing better to do right now...
first of all you did not pull 180whp at 4.7k with just i/e/#4 - unless you are spraying or boosting........
second, there is no dip at wot.... except in 4,5 or 6th at which point means you landed out the of vtec when you shifted and you were not at wot.
third, you need to learn how to shift. the only time you should run through the vtec switch is in 1st (and in 1st at wot - well there is no hint of a dip), with a 8.6k you should never ever land out of vtec.
fourth, anything less than wot through the switch point - there will be a dip and all bets are off at this point....
