i have an 06 type-s and i am planning on getting a reflash for it. i have a cai, exhaust and a spoon 4-2/ itr 2-1 combo. if you dont know what this is, its the jdm two piece exhaust manifold setup. i bought a new uperhalf from spoon to get better flow and i am keeping the stock 2-1 portion to stick with an oem cat although its a little higher flowing than the usdm version. im assuing it would be ok to run this with a reflash because it has the cat?
and what would happen if i were to get a higher flowing intake manifold such as the prc on the jdm integra type-r or the rbc on the new 06 civic si?
The reflash is for a stock engine with minor bolt-ons. For what you want to do, you should probably use the K-Pro to maximize the gains and make sure you don't run lean.
what exactly causes the engine to run lean? i thought race headers ran lean because it deletes the cat. but with this setup, i still have an oem cat but its just better flowing. i just wanted to do everything i can to make the best setup possible while trying to avoid getting kpro. although i know it is the single best thing i can do, i dont know how long im going to keep my car so i dont feel like spending all that money for a kpro when im not even going to make good use of it anyways. i just want to make the best combo of products possible to run with a reflash.
The relfash was designed for a stock engine with CAI optionally with a cat back. If you replace the stock header, then you will alter the characteristics of the engine, and possibly run lean. How lean is a matter of testing on a dyno.
what causes an engine to run lean? i know that it is when there is more air than fuel in the a/f mixture.
how about if i get the itr reflash? if i got that then i would pick up an rbc intake manifold.
someone on clubrsx said that Doug said that it is ok to use a shorty header with a test pipe combo with an 06 type-s reflash, wouldnt my setup be better than what i just listed because i still have a cat?
Chances are you are running much leaner than optimum right now. The reflash has the same fuel as stock. This is why we do not recommend running the reflash with a header.
Every setup is different. It is not possible to guess what your AF might be without measuring the AF on a dyno.
so either way with or without reflash my car is running a little on the lean side because of my header combo? i thought the reflash was going to make it run leaner?
Search through forsale classifieds in the various RSX forums. Sometimes you can find them in there. I believe you can buy the manifolds new from JDM places online, but they're not as cost effective as getting them second or third hand (usually $200-300).
