kpro usb connected... now all lights on dash are on

Post by sf-si-02 »

My buddy atttached the usb to his k-pro ecu for the first time ever tonite, and all the lights on the dash are on now... cel, srs, eps... anyone have any experience with this?

More details: Car was tuned in the past, and now the owner had a CEL (vtec malfunction from the obdii paper-clip and blink cel diagnostic method). Now, he resetted the ecu, and went for a drive. Sure enough the cel reappears. I ask him to borrow a laptop and plug into the ecu... i.e. I wanted to make sure he was reading the correct cel. Now, he plugs the usb to the laptio and the ecu, opens kmanager and puts the key to II (this is an ep3). He claims all the lights on the dash turned on, I said try starting the car. Same thing, they are still on (eps, srs, cel). Kmanager was unable to communicate with the ecu, i.e. the lightening bolt didn't do anything. I tell him to unplug the ecu, and reinstall the usb drivers. Ok, now kmnager can talk to the ecu, I have him re-upload his calibration. Still all the lights are on. In the interim, I asked him to pull the ecu fuse to clear the cel, and sure enough kmanager shows no cel, but the cel srs and eps lights are still on in his dash.

please advise, I am fresh out of ideas, and have never heard of this happening before. Could he have damanged the multiplexor?

The ECU does not control the indicator lights for anything else in the dash. The multiplexor only controls the charge light, water temperature on the left side.

I know this sounds obvious, but did your friend remove the paper clip, and are they starting the engine?

The next option is not a good - if the paper clip is inserted in the wrong position it will damaged everything connected to the SRS (ECU, ABS, SRS, PS etc). I suggest disconnecting the battery and seeing if that will reset the diagnostic outputs.
