obd0-obd1 how do i find check engine light codes?
I have a 1990 EX civic with 1991 JDM B16, converted to obd1 with an s300. I am getting an intermittent check engine light, maybe once every other week. I can shut the car off and it goes away again. I do not have a computer to access the s300, so I was hoping to at least look for codes using the check engine light as in obd1 cars. The shop that did the install tells me there should be a connector to jump in the front drivers side corner of the engine bay, but my factory service manual shows nothing. I know on obd1 cars this should be under the dash. But since my car is converted, are my only options to buy a laptop or take it in? Thanks for any advice.
Thanks for the advice, but before I go sticking wires where they dont belong... there is a wire connected at pin D4, do I just stick a jumper wire in there along with it and ground the other end? Where does that wire go if there is no service connector to be found? And about the laptop, I have access to one, but if I install the Hondata program will I be able to re-install it on my own laptop if I ever get one?
The service check connector on my 89 Civic is under the hood, just forward of the driver's side shock tower, and is a 2 pin connector with a yellow rubber cap sticking out of the wiring harness that goes forward to the headlights.posfwd4dr wrote:Where does that wire go if there is no service connector to be found?
If your OBD conversion harness is properly designed, you will be able to jump that connector and have the codes flash on your check engine light on the dash, just like an OBD1 or OBD2 Civic.
You just need to ground the SCS wire. Refer to the wiring diagrams for an OBD1 vihicle from the link below.
