ECU won't hold calibration

Post by DowRacer »

I need some help...

We have installed the K-pro ECU into a 05 Civic DX coupe with an 02 k20a2 setup, using the PRB ECU. We are currently using the "k20a2-rsx-coldair.kal" calibration.

Everything works great, no codes, BUT... when the ignition is turned off, it seems as though the calibration has been lost, and the ECU runs at stock specs. There has been occasional instances where the ECU has held its flash for about 10 min after the ignition has been turned off.

So, if we flash the ECU before we head out on the track, and don't turn the ignition off, everything works and the ECU runs at the flash specs.

Another thing to note is that in one instance on the track, while stopped for a red flag... the engine light came on while idling, and then went off once back into the race.

I have checked, and rechecked the ground. I have the ground set up exactly as the Hondata pic shows!

If anyone could help... it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike

What happens when you say the 'ECU loses the calibration'? Do you get a CEL or rev limit? The test would be to download the calibration from the ECU after a time period and compare with the original. If you can, please post a datalog of the problem.

I can upload a calibration to the ECU... until I turn the igition off everything works as it should. When I turn the key off and restart the car I get stock rev, vtec, launch, and idle. The I get a Cel for secondary O2 and ELD. I assume I get the cell, as the secodary O2 is no longer disabled.

I will try to get a datalog for you... but this only happens once the ignition is off. Once I flash it again it works.

Thanks

Mike

There is no way that the ecu will return to stock just by removing power to the ecu.

Please describe exactly how you are uploading to the ecu. Please give step by step detials.

Using the "k20a2-rsx-stock-tuned.kal" (disable imob and enable secodary 02)

Upload procedure...

1) Open "k20a2-rsx-stock-tuned.kal"
2) USB cable into ECU/Laptop
3) Ignition ON (not started)
4) Online - Upload (takes about 30sec)
5) Ignition Start

Am I missing a step?

- at the end of the upload, something around the ECU will click, the tach resets and its good to go

- everytime we have to reload the calibration, it takes about 30sec, never 3-6 seconds.

due to the way the K-series ECU works it is impossible for it to revert back to a previous program by removing power.

Once a program has been written to the ecu, the only way to change those settings is to over write them by uploading another program or making chages that are then uploaded to the ecu. The original programming of the ecu (stock settings) were erased when the K-Pro was installed.

There has to be somethign you are doing which is over writting the settings.
