Boost by Gear Addon?

Post by boost charger »

Is there gonna be an addon or update to the s300 so we can have a boost by gear function like the KPro b/c I know me and many other s300 users would love to have that option opposed to the $400 Apexi-R. I am even willing to pay money for the option.

This will be a great addition to the S300's selling point.

Is there anyway we can buy the parts to do the addon from you? I would prefer not to take my daily driver down while I send my ECU to you.

this option is similar to the speed controlled boost in the profec-e01, correct?? That'd save me a pretty penny since I think that option is awesome. How much would this addition cost??

You've already paid for it, so the cost is $40-$50 for a solenoid and $10-$50 for the ECU modifications. The boost control does not use a PID algorithm, so it will not be as accurate as a profec. However, if you plumb the pressure source the right way and your wastegate works correctly you should be with 0.25 - 0.5 lbs of your target boost. If you have a lot of power then boost by gear is very useful - I can get my car to the verge of wheelspin in 2nd,3rd and 4th. It makes driving a little different, as you can short shift - as long as the turbo stays spooled in the next gear, you end up with the same torque to the wheels in every gear, ideally just before wheel spin.

so would this replace an EBC?? Some people on my site are thinking of using this option in conjunction with a profec b II or similar EBC. Is that necessary or will Hondata be as versatile as I think it is with this option?

The s300 boost control output does the same thing as an EBC (which stands for 'electronic boost control' after all). You can't use both at once. No manual boost controllers etc - the duty cycle controlled output with solenoid is like an infinitely variable manual controller. This is good bang for the buck considering the cost of a EBC vs the cost of adding a solenoid and components to a s300 ECU.
