Can u make a list of what KManager is adding to the reg so I can clean out and try a fresh install.
Ya, I'm hoping someone from Hondata will provide such information as well.

I did search through the registry for all instances of "hondata", "kmanager", and "ftd2", cleaned it up, but still no luck for me.

BTW, how/when does your USB driver install process fail out? What error message? I'm wondering if it's the same as mine.

Bringing this one back to life because I'm having the same issue.

I just restored my laptop to factory settings eliminating all signs of KManager. Windows XP SP2

KManager (current version) installs and then I plug in the ECU. IT comes up as Serial -> USB device, so I go to update driver and force it to the unsigned ECU driver in the KMAnager dir.

It starts the install then halts because it can not find FTD2XX.EXE

I've done a massive search on the whole laptop, no such file. Even popped in a XP disc. If I skip it, it then askes for another FTD2XX file it can't find. If I skip them it installs but KManager won't see it.

When I plug in my KPro, it shows up as Hondata K-Series ECU, not as USB->Serial device. Still, when the wizard tries to load the drivers, it ends up telling me that the software cannot be found (in the KManager folder).

I too tried to manually install the drivers, and yes, same missing file as you.

By the sounds of yours (i.e., the fact that it is not being recognized by Windows as "Hondata K-Series ECU"), you may have an issue with the KPro board (or at least that's likely what Hondata will tell ya ;-)

Mine is still not working, even with the newest KManager, despite the device being correctly recognized as Hondata K-Series ECU. I have not got it working on either of my laptops since I incorrectly upgraded from 1.2.1.3 to 1.2.1.5 (by uninstalling 1.2.1.3 first, rather than doing the upgrade process).

I have not tried flattening my laptops and starting from scratch. However, I know my KPro is working fine since my tuner's laptop still works fine. And my car is fully tuned and running perfectly now, so I'm in no rush to resolve it on my own laptops.

Still, I wish someone from Hondata would tell me exactly what files copied and registry entries are made when KManager is installed so that I can manually remove every last bit of KManager and re-install everything from scratch (without having to rebuild my machines).

Have you tried yours with someone who already has KManager up-and-running on their laptop?

EDIT: btw, did you EVER have it working on your laptop? Is this the result of a KManager upgrade?

Yep, we tried it on another laptop and it works fine. I can install an older version of KManager like... 1.0.5 or something and it works fine without the ECU drivers. Very odd, but as soon as I upgrade I lose the ability to use KManager.

Very strange indeed. So you and I are sort of in the same boat. I have TWO laptops where I've reproduced the problematic scenario.

So even after you rebuilt your laptop from scratch, you still can't get the latest KManager working huh?

But if you uninstall the latest and install and older one, it works? What is the absolute latest one that you can get working? 1.2.1.2? 1.2.1.3?

not really, if I uninstall the latest and install the older one it doesn't work either.

Basically, once I install the new software, it doesn't work at all, it like kills any hope for my laptop to read the ECU unless I do a factory reset to illiminate all drivers and registry entries. Then I can install the old software and at least datalog.

Latest I can get working is the one that came with my ECU (also the only other version I have) 1.1.5

Ah, I see. So you had 1.2.1.5 working on your laptop, then tried to upgrade to 1.2.1.7 and now you have the USB issue, correct?

Similar situation to me, but like I said, my laptops (both) see the KPro as "Hondata K-Series ECU", then the driver installation process fails citing no appropriate software found. Frustrating.

So you also have NOT tried flattening your laptop and reinstalling everything from the OS up, correct?

I suspect that if I flattened my laptops that I'd get everything working. But that is more work than I can bear at the moment, and it's not worth it since I'm now fully tuned and car is running perfectly.

Again, if the Hondata techs could advise how to ensure with 100% certainty that every last KManager file and registry entry is removed (they should know, since they know exactly what the KManager installer does), then I believe I/we can get the latest KManager working too, as it would be equivalent to installing on a virgin machine (absolutely no traces of KManager).

Can I ask how you tried to upgrade from your working 1.2.1.5 to the non-working version? Did you do (correctly) do the "Update" process and allow the newer version to install on top of the working version? Or did you do what I did and try to uninstall the old version first (via Add/Remove Programs), then install the new one?

According to Hondata, the latter approach is problematic. I suppose it results in some versioning issues with driver and/or DLL files.

One time, I'm not sure how, but I got my usb drivers screwy with k-pro. What I did was remove the k-pro from device manager, then rescan for hardware. When it found the device, I chose to install driver from a location I specified and pointed it to C:\program files\Kmanager and picked the k-pro driver it found there. After that, it worked perfectly. You may also be able to do the same thing by going into device properties and clicking "update driver" and point it to the location of the most recent kmanager install.

Hope this helps.

USB->Serial

This is how it was with the 1.5.1 software but I was able to see the ECU, datalog, load my kal, etc..

I then upgraded the software and it can no longer see the ECU. This is when I attempted to force the driver and ran into the unable to find FTD2XX.EXE error.

Johnny, I did restore my laptop once. It was the only way to get a working version on (the 1.5.1 version). Because once I installed the latest software, even if I uninstalled, and reinstalled 1.5.1 it wasn't able to find it anymore... go figure.

Please email (support at Hondata.com) and paste this post and I will send you some beta software in the next couple of days to try.

Hi Spunkster, mine shows up as "Hondata K-Series ECU" in Device Manager.

Any hope for mine, short of blowing away my laptops and starting over?
