test ECU w/S300 out of car?

Is it possible to test a P28/S300 if it is out of the car?

I'm owner #933 and foolishly tried to install it myself last night. Desoldering was no problem but I may have made some mistakes soldering in the new pins and chip.

Should I even bother hooking USB to my laptop or does it need power from the wire harness in the car to run?

It cannot be tested outside of the car. You will need to put it in the car and turn the key to the on position to be able to upload to the ecu and check fro proper operation.
