Mild Vibration

Post by kovacsa »

Hello All ... Looking for some advise is anyone has any to offer.

I bought a used '92 Accord and have been having this vibration problem that I can't quite put my finger on, as to exactly what might be causing it.

There is a mild vibration at idle. This mild vibration only happens after the car has been driven for a bit. The funny thing is ... when the engine is first turned over in the morning its fine .. only after driving for a bit.

I've replaced the spark plugs (which were well out of spec), dist cap, rotor and have just today added fuel system cleaner (expensive).

Anyhow ... after this tune-up there was an improvement .. but not to my satisfaction. The vibration is mild yet quite annoying while idling.

Any insight?

Thanks,

Al

You can try verify ignition timing, the condition of plug wires, valve clearance, pcv valve, and the possibility of a vacuum leak due to disconneted hoses. Since it's an older car, perhaps a compression test can review any potential problems. Also, inspect the motor mounts to make sure they are not damaged.

Hey JT ... thanks for the suggestion. What exactly is involved in the compression test?

Thanks again,

Al

also check to see the idle rpm. if it is too low, it can cause a vib meaning the car is just fighting to run. your idle should be around 750-850 for standard and 850-900 for auto.
Got Boost?
