Just got my Flashpro. Could use some help getting started.

Post by Doink »

Hello all, I have a 2007 FG2 with 225 000km and rising every day. It has a 3 inch skunk2 catback, and stock everything else. I've ordered a skunk2 alpha header but it hasn't arrived yet and I probably won't be installing it for a couple months. I planned to pay e tunez for a tune once I install my header and I am considering an intake.

In the meantime i've flashed the stock tuned calibration file to my car and really like how it feels for the most part. Minor issuue looking back at the datalog was several knocks on cylinders 2 and 3. The first 2 I think are my fault, 80% throttle in 6th gear 58mph/93kph(any way to change the speed readout in the graphs and sensors?). The other knocks appear to all be low throttle low rpm but 30 plus degrees of vtc. I don't feel confident enough to change anything but I'm guessing either ignition brought back at those rpm ranges and 30+vtc, or pulling back the vtc itself at those rpm/throttle. probably gonna drive it as it is to work tomorrow now that I've got the flash CEL on knock detection turned on and I'll avoid high load/low rpm scenarios while i do my next datalogs.

anyways I'll attach my datalog help would be appreciated, thanks.

Post the calibration file you are running. You more than likely need to reduce the timing.

Thank you for the reply, I was just coming on here to post that, probably should've done it first. Sorry lol. I've also included cal1-1 which is the calibration I worked on this morning. All i did was reduce ignition by 1 degree across the board in the 2500-2750 columns. I've also included another datalog and screenshots of the exact things I changed. All datalogs I've posted so far have been with that "originalstocktunedcalibration" file.

Let me know if I'm on the right track. I'd really like to learn what it is I'm doing but I've been struggling to find resources online for someone with as limited experience as me. Again thanks for the reply, I know how tiring it must be to see the same "I don't know what I'm doing but i tuned my car anyways now clean up my mess" posts ad nauseam.

Adding on a couple of datalogs from today. This has all been done on my cal1-1 calibration with reduced timing shown above. I had several more knocks 5 of which occurred all at once when i shifted while in vtec. The af spiked lean (which i'd have assumed was because I lifted to shift) then instantly 5 knocks on cyl 4. a little unsure how to tackle that one lol. more fuel? reduced advance? I'm worried I'm going to end up taking timing out of the whole table in my ignorance. will be setting tune to stock next time I drive the car unless I have a breakthrough. I'd be curious to learn whether I had knocks on the stock tune because I wasn't careful and would often bog the car on the highway. I also appear to have maxed out knock retard values basically all the time in 6th and knock control is always a little high. I've read higher than 50% k. control isn't good and mine is always higher than that. do i need to reduce advance all across the board? every vtc both cams? or is it gonna be like this, drive a bit knock a little adjust that spot, rinse repeat until no knocks ever?

Wish I could edit posts.... Or maybe I just don't know how. Realized I don't think I can adjust fuel really as I'm on a maf tune and I don't see a reason to switch to map based ve tune for my NA stock intake and header car. Anyways looked at the graph more and used my eyes. Knock retard values are not always maxed out. That was the line that shows me what gear I'm in. I've tweaked the advance down anywhere just before knock is detected and I've got a new calibration to try tomorrow. Fingers crossed.....

I'm 4 or 5 revisions deep and 9 more datalogs in. I now am watching k. level for >50% values. where those values appear in my datlog i reduce advance by half a degree. if there is an actual knock then i decrease by more like a degree.

I've been progressivley pushing the car harder and harder for longer and longer and have noticed fewer spikes in k. retard. It will spike alongside any knocks that occur, and it will spike in high load situations. it also spikes whilst the car is cranking to start. Should I be concerned about that?

Lots of learning done the last few days. realize how dumb my last posts sound and I assume this one is gonna sound just as dumb to me in the future. I will post tomorrow with my most recent calibration and a couple datalogs with me hopefully beating on the car. Sorry for spam bumping my own post lol just recording my learning hope its okay.

Datalogs and calibration from today. better and better every time, so I'm gonna call this problem solved. I will continue to monitor my datalogs. Any comments/criticisms/thoughts/opinions would be appreciated.
