OBDII Diagnostics Information

Can someone confirm the process for getting OBDII Diagnostics Information?

1.Run the car for the proper amount of stops and starts and duration
2.Turn the car off
3.Plug in the FP
4.Plug in the usb between the FP and a laptop
5.Start FP Manager
6.Turn the key to the on but not start position
7.Click the OBDII Diagnostics tab in ONLINE
OR
1.Plug the FP into the car
2.Drive for some amount of time
3.Stop and remove the FP
4.Connect the FP via usb to a computer and open FP Manager
5.Click on the appropriate tab

It must be connected to the vehicle, and it must be running to read codes.
