I'm working on a K20A3 that was swapped into a Mini Cooper. We installed a RestoMod Air HVAC system into this car and I'm having a problem with the engine dying when the A/C is on. It idles fine while just sitting there, but when you open the throttle and the idle valve closes, when you snap off the throttle the idle valve doesn't respond fast enough, the engine sags, and dies.
I saw a few threads about a similar issue but those people all seem to be using factory honda climate control, or at least they're using the EMS to control the compressor. The system I have installed is self contained, so the functionality of the compressor, blower, etc is all controlled by a separate module.

This thread suggests using the VTP circuit but I'm unsure if that's being used as an input for A/C idle up. It sounds like I need ground B9 when the compressor is activated to let the ECU know when the A/C switch has been activated. Does this sound correct? If so, will this still work as intended if I'm not using the ACC output on the EMS to trigger the compressor clutch?
Related, but unrelated: When I'm in KManager, I'm not getting any realtime data on my screen. It just seems to freeze. I can make edits in the software but when I try to change the idle air valve gain it doesn't seem to have any effect. I'm kind of hoping I can circumvent having to add any circuits by just adjusting the sensitivity of the valve and maybe adding some timing when the engine sags. I'm not sure if this is relevant. When I click the datalog button it prompts me that something is out of date and needs reflashed. Something about the software on the EMS is out of date.

From Help, About, what is the version of software you are using?

Version 4.6.0.0 Build 4005
Re: K20A3 A/C Idle Up Question
Did you upload the calibration to the ECU using this version of software?

Re: K20A3 A/C Idle Up Question
So far I've only tried reading the calibration from Online < Information. When I made a change to the IACV I used this same section to write what i changed to the ECU.
Sorry, this is my first time messing around with a Hondata ECU.
Could you point me in the right direction for upgrading the firmware on this ECU?

IT will prompt to update the firmware automatically hen it is plugged in with the new software. You must open your calibration and upload it to the ECU using the new software.
