E18 output for shift light

hello, using E18 shift light output to trigger (-) a relay for aftermarket shift light. is there a low limit to the rpm it can be set at? i have 1st gear rpm set to 2000rpm to see if i can get the light to turn on. it the output does not read ground at 2000rpm or above. metering the output of E18 gets me around 6.0 mega ohms to ground.

How exactly do you have this wired?

haven't connected E18 output to the circuit. just testing the output with a meter.
