Progressively worse Kmanager to Kpro connection issues (cord and now bluetooth)

Post by MakitaDiesel »

- Vehicle - '00 Honda Insight
- Serial number - 51481
- Software version - 4.5.8.0 Build 3553 running on Windows 10
- ECU part number - 37820-PND-A09 / 2062-001574
- the calibration - attached
- Vehicle setup - stock '04 K24a2, base RSX harness, CJ's conversion harness
- when and where you got the K-Pro - It's been several years at this point, 2nd hand

1. The car hasn't been modified in any significant way in over 3 years. I've been using the same laptop and cord this entire time. Same wiring, plugs, etc for thousands of routine miles. The only "change" has been regular KManager updates with diminishing returns as far as functionality. Sometime last year the corded method would cut out during datalogs so I went to Bluetooth despite slower frames and uploading. I'm only tuning for part throttle knock at this point on longer drives/hot days so my needs are low. That worked until recently when BT would not stay datalogging either, anywhere from a few seconds to a minute. I've done all the easy things like uninstall/reinstall software, unpair/repair BT (which my computer still recognizes Kpro easily on settings in Windows) but does not come up under KManager as an available connection anymore. Clicking refresh just spins the blue circle and then says not responding. Connecting the cord is hit or miss and more than once in the recent past when I attempted to log, the entire program closes itself and goes back to desktop screen without warning.
2. TLDR: there were years of flawless connection and logging and now I can't even see more than a few seconds of realtime display plus several attempts at logging crashes the system and Bluetooth is MIA in general. For what it's worth I can still drive the car fine if I baby it, my last calibration is 97% knock free besides high load, low RPM situations or after longer drives in hot weather.

Tried a few things today. Loading my cal and hitting F10 to log often caused the program to exit immediately, a crash. If I instead loaded the cal and used F9 to record it would do so, odd (cord only). Bluetooth is still not available despite Windows easily seeing it on device settings. Is there a way to go back to an older version of KManager, say a year or two old? The most recent update/firmware seems to have crippled ease of functionality. All I need it for is recording logs, knock count, graph and ignition tables.

Have you tried your ECU on a known working vehicle. It sounds like there may be interference on this vehicle which is causing the issues described.

I am the only swapped Honda in my circle of friends so that option is out. I'd believe the interference issue if this was a new swap or I had made changes but the setup has been unmodified for years now after literally dozens and dozens of logs and cals. Windows has no problem recognizing the BT through a wall which leads me to believe the software (and presumably it's most recent updates) are the culprit since it won't connect 2 feet away with the ECU in direct unexposed line of sight with the laptop in the passenger seat when before there was carpet and floor mat with no issue with the laptop on the roof of the car.

This is a 3rd party app that tests BT signals. I am standing outside the shut driver's door a couple feet away. Can I please have an older build of Kmanager (pre-Dec '23, 4.5.6 etc) to troubleshoot this?

After reading further I see downgrading to an older build is also not a solution, which limits my options to waiting until the next update and hope it restores this function. This experience is souring me on everything to do with this product.

Dug through old files all morning and found 4.4.4. Installed it on a USB stick.

Then fired up the current build right after.

The update is clearly the issue.

Hello,
Have the same issues, actually identical issues as yours.
Did you manage to fix the problems?
Very frustrated as i have to try 10 plus times to stay online so i can datalog the car.
Best regards
