FL5 Failing to Command Desired Boost

Post by FL5_fanatic »

Since January of 2023 I've been on a journey with my FL5. With a trusted tuner at my side, we have tested countless hardware and software configurations. Approximately 150 dyno pulls have been recorded with this car. In January of 2023 Hondata for this platform was not yet available but in the time since the software was of course released and we have seen lots of progress as the software has continued to develop. In the Fall of 2023 we recorded our highest output, approximately 530whp at a commanded boost target of 32.0 PSI. In the time since we have continued to test out various hardware configurations and this morning the car once again strapped to the dyno to test something new.

Unfortunately today we could not get the ECU to command 30 PSI (or higher) and even when we get close, the commanded target tapers down. It is important to understand that the (upgraded) turbocharger has no problem meeting the commanded targets, the problem is that the ECU is not commanding the expected target per the configuration of the Hondata calibration file.

As you probably understand by now, the tuner behind the scenes here has arguably more experience with this software than anyone. We've explored all possible options to work around this on our own but ultimately it seems that there is a limit somewhere that we do not have access so, seemingly something that has changed since we were able to command 32.0 PSI with ease in the Fall of 2023.

With the car still strapped on the dyno, we have been seeking a prompt resolution. Unfortunately the only response we received from our email support ticket today was from a social media team member. It seems that our previous support contact may no longer be with the company. Wondering what to do at this point, I was reminded that Doug recommended that technical issues are shared on the forum so that more eyes can be laid upon them.

I realize that there are few FL5 owners pushing the car this far at this time, but perhaps someone else has ran into similar trouble? If anyone from the Hondata support or engineering team would like to reach out, I am more than happy to share datalogs and further details. Thank you.

Are you already in contact with someone at Hondata? If so, no need to post on the forum as well. If not, post the calibration and datalogs.

A support ticket was opened and responded to once yesterday. The car will sleep on the dyno another night. Hopefully we will make more progress soon. Thanks
