Ethanol Content not reading

Post by iBoost »

Serial# 42907
Version 4.5.6.0
Kpro v4 PRB ECU - Acura RSX

ISSUE: Ethanol content sensor reads 0.

HISTORY: The car has sat for the last 10 months while converting to AWD. Previously, everything worked properly including the ethanol content sensor/reading. During the AWD conversion, I did have to extend the 3 wires going to the ethanol content sensor. I have a brand new Duralast AGM battery as well. Upon initial startup, I was getting a P0176 "Ethanol sensor input error" and the display would show 82% which seemed to be accurate. I could clear this code and it would not reappear until another start up, however it would at times not appear. My first thought was that the sensor was going bad so I ordered another GM 13577429 sensor. Installed that and I am no longer getting the code, however it only reads 0. I swapped back to the old sensor and no longer get the code, but still reads 0 which leads me to believe the issue is not with the sensor.

TROUBLESHOOTING: I've confirmed the values below using my multimeter. Outside of this, I'm lost on what to look at to get this working properly again.
VCC- 11.89v

GND- .476 ohms

Looks like your meter is showing a range in kilo-ohms though, so it would be 476 Ohm for the ground, which probably is too high and an indication of a bad connection somewhere along the line.

Bye, Arno.

Good eye! I will make a new wiring harness and test again. Thank you.

Update: When I put my meter on the digital ground lead coming from Kpro, I get the same reading of resistance. Should I not be using that black wire as the ground for the sensor?

Is the vehicle running or just sitting with the key in the on position when you are datalogging readings from the ethanol sensor?

Not running, key in turned to IGN.

I unfortunately don't have the ability to start the car at the moment for other, non-related issues.

It must be running to read correctly.

I was not expecting that! I guess I may not have a problem and will check once I get the car running again.

Thank you!

What would have caused the P0176 "Ethanol sensor input error" when it was running briefly?

I've read that. I have a brand new AGM battery, and I would also get the code before I even cranked the motor.

Hey have you fix your issue with flex fuel sensor? are you getting error code P0176?
