S300 empty CAN data

Post by parentevan »

Howdy folks would love some advice.

P28 with S300 (Using an OBD1 Emulator) and AiM PDM32 were working great on the bench. CAN data was streaming in and I was so happy. I tore the setup down to work on other things.

I set up the S300 again to log some CAN data, but couldn't see any packets streaming in. Confused, I re-flashed the S300 and tried some other things but nothing worked. I hooked the S300 CAN output to my garage sale oscilliscope (Best $20 I've spent), and though I can clearly change the baud rate, and even disable CAN through SManager, the CAN output shows no data being sent, only an EMPTY datastream.

Would love some insight. Serial Number 62337. Firmware updated when I received it in Jan '23.

If it was working previously, and now it is not then most likely it is a wiring issue.

This is not a wiring issue. The S300 and ECU is only connected to the oscilloscope and OBD1 Honda Engine Simulator V3. The Global Acceptance Filter on the LPC1768 processor should be setup as output only and won’t receive data or respond to CAN requests. In this mode, the module should be streaming data regardless of if there is anyone listening. And to be fair, it IS outputting data, but the data is “000000000000000000000000” and contains no information. (I’m a manufacturing engineer who does automation and former ASE Auto Tech.)

FYI, the RS232 and TTL portions of the S300 are putting out clean data. This leaves us with likely a bad LPC1768FBD100 or a bad VP232 CAN transciever.

With everything plugged in and the ignition in the on position, go to the Help menu and click on “send feedback”. Include a detailed description of the issue.

Do you have the dash connected that you are trying to send the CAN info to?

I do not, but the PDM32 does not communicate to the ECU anyway, it only reads incoming data and does not send acknowledgements via CAN.

I believe that the dash needs to be connected as it will acknowledge the connection and then data is sent.

Hi Spunkster,

I've connected up the PDM32 again and I've still got nothing. S300 is set for 500k baudrate as it should, and the PDM is not receiving anything. I've set the PDM32 as both active and silent on CAN Bus. Nothing. Sawtooth waveform still appears from the S300. I believe I've gone above and beyond my due diligence. I've erased the S300, tried other calibration files, and still nothing. Can I send in the unit for you to evaluate now?
