Nitrous solenoid wiring help needed

Post by e85B20v »

Hello to all members, this is my first post. I've searched and searched to no avail. I wired up my nitrous solenoid according to the diagram provided by hondata. As soon as I turn ignition on I smelt something burning and it was the solenoid. The solenoid is grounded, and all other wiring is as per hondata instructions. The arming switch works and hondata shows it turning on and off. The only difference is 30 is connected directly to battery for the amp draw of solenoid and 86 is connected to switched 12v. I doubt that could be causing this. Was I supposed to connect the other lead of solenoid to 12v instead of ground? I was told the ecu grounds 87 to trigger the solenoid. I just don't understand. This solenoid is fried so I'll have to test with a multimeter until I get a replacement.

If you're going to wire the relay power source directly to the battery, you should use a fuse between the battery and the relay to protect your solenoid. The Hondata diagram is correct. The ECU is grounding pin 85 on the relay, which energizes the coil and closes the switch, then allowing current to flow from pin 30 to pin 87, powering the solenoid.

I'm sorry I misspoke earlier. I have the ecu output going to pin 85 not 87. The output from relay to solenoid going to 87. Would I need to invert the output logic on ecu? I will add a fuse to the relay power also. The diagram provided by the nitrous kit manufacturer shows switched power to the wot switch that gets pinned to 86, Direct battery 12v to pin 30 ground at pin 85 and 12v output to pin 87.

I figured it out. Oddly enough I just needed to invert the output. Which at first didn't make sense because without it inverted the sensor tab showed pcs off with power going to solenoid. With it inverted it shows on with no power going to solenoid. Oh well. At least it's resolved. Thanks!

Update!

I'm now having a problem with the ecu not activating the solenoid when conditions are met. The output I'm using is the pcs (A20). Instead I've noticed when looking at a log that it's activating (A15) even though that is not the selected output. Should I just switch the wiring to that pin instead?

I changed the output to ACC (A15) on the calibreation so i can rewire it and see what it does. on the log i uploaded the output was still set to A20

You need to look at datalog that was made with the current calibration, not a prior datalog.

I haven't checked the current calibration yet I'm at work. The only change that was made was the output from A20 which was what it was on the datalog. I have the laptop here with me at work so I just changed to to A15 so when I get off I was planning on trying that to see if it works. Or maybe my exu doesn't have q16?

You have your engine load settings backwards as you have a higher minimum than the maximum.
