K24a1 small turbo cal check

Post by keithpohljr »

I have a turbo K24a1 with a fabricated log manifold and a rev9 tx50e with the billet compressor wheel and .63 turbine housing. End goal is 15psi currently on 11. I'm on full E85 mostly because its cheaper than premium. Injectors are FID 1000cc (900cc) on 60psi base with a DW340 in tank pump. I'm just wondering if I have too much timing because I can't get the knock sensor to not show knock under boost. Not looking for max hp per psi just want it safe. Only engine mods are a stock prb oil pump, DC timing chain, inline pro tensioner and k24z timing guides.

Welcome to the forum Keith,

I reviewed the log and I did not see any knock occur during WOT. The 14 count could be from other events not seen in the log. Create another log that displays the area where knock is increasing. This will let you know the exact area where knock is present.

Thanks for the welcome! So I tried getting a decent log but the temps have gotten back down into the 40s with little sun so my summer tires aren't wanting to hook up too well. Really need to get a lsd at this point. This also has a rbc intake and NGK plugs with a 8 heat range gapped to .025. The knock count it pretty high from a lot of limiter hits trying to get the tires to warm up a bit. I guess does the timing generally look pretty safe? I want to get my boost control and flex fuel sensor installed yet before I go and pay to have it tuned.

I did not look over the timing in detail as i was only looking for knock. I would need to see a log of where the knock occurred to be able to deem it "safe".

Also, I would not be hitting ant limiters if the was isn't tuned.

I'm typically not letting it just ride the rev limiter I'm usually trying to modulate the throttle to let the car catch up to the wheel speed. I also see my 11psi datalog is not what I thought it was, but the one I uploaded the yesterday does show knock in it. At 8psi which is gate I had 14 degrees of timing and it would show knock, just not every pull or in the same spot during the pull. I went down to 10 degrees and could feel the car starting to fall off on power at this point and it was still showing knock. So I bumped it up to 12 and felt a power increase and the same when I went back to 14 but called it good there. At the 11-12psi level I'm 11-12 degrees on timing. I feel like these are pretty low timing numbers for this boost level and hp and being full E85 even if it is winter blend. The K20a3 that was in here before had 17 degrees of timing on 8 psi and I was doing a 50/50 fill of e85 and 87 octane and the knock sensor never moved. I know the K24a1 is not the a3 but I'm surprised by the difference in what the knock sensor is showing me.

Yes not all engines are the same they will need different timing. You. You can also be experiencing false knock which you have tested by reducing and increasing it in areas. If you reduce timing and knock doesn’t go away it is more than likely false knock. You could have other things rattling in the engine bay that trigger the knock sensor.

Some tuners turn of the knock sensor all together for this reason. On the dyno you can look at the torque curves to set the max timing.

I also have a Honda crv 02 mt in Australia with the k24a1 , I was wondering if anyone knows what aftermarket ecu will wire straight into the original harness
