usb connectivity problems?

Post by 12seccivy »

Hi.This is my first time here..
I bought the new s300 and had a local dealer add the chip to a p28 obd1 ecu.
problem I'm having is in the first step to usb drivers.
I've used 3 different computers and to no avail(same result)
first comp died on me so it doesnt count
second was a dell pent 2 with a windows 2000 program..I thought this might be the cause,so I used a newer IBM with xp and 512 kb ram
same result occured.
what happens is the usb "new hardware"icon pops up and searches ,but it keeps specifying a (-) serial connector and not s300 usb connector
and of course the software cant be found on the disc, hard drive or the website.
Any help would be awesome for I'm stumped to the wall and frustrated
Thanx

Well since I dont have any ideas and no one else does either..
I called my local hondata dealer(the owner is a friend of 10 years) and he's willing to lend me his lap top that he uses for tuning.but only for a little while. so hopefully I can grasp the concept quickly enough to get the car running..
wish me luck! :?

IT is a good idea to try a different laptop. If the problems still exist with a different laptop then it is either the ecu or the s300...all s300 are tested before being shipped, so most problems are related to the socketing of the ecu.

Well the problem still exists.Even with the tuners laptop.
I think there might be a problem with the socketing or possibly the ecu.

The green light comes on steady, but there's no red light at all.

Send the ECU and s300 to us. If we find a problem with the socketing of the ecu there is a minimum charge of $75. Fill out the form at http://www.hondata.com/ecusocketinginfoform.html and include a detailed explanation of the problem.

Once you eliminate the S300 as the problem, take your laptop and do a complete clean reformat. Reinstall XP and all of your drivers. Then get a Card with USB 2.0 port on it. IN many cases the USB ports in Dells are not high speed so you will have problems there. You need to make sure you have all of the drivers for the S300 installed. GO out to the vehicle and plug it in and select teh Update drivers from the help menu. This should run it with no problems.

Done.I sent it on thursday..
I dont know exactly how I'm going to approach my local hondata dealer if it turns out to be from the socketing..He charged me 100.00 to socket it.

hey, i was just wondering if hondata told you what your problem was... Was it your socketing or your USB interface?? I am having some issues too and i'm damn sure the ECU is fine b/c i can switch the J1 and J12 and get the ECU to work back at stock fuel maps. I also have a cool rework station, so the temperature never gets over 150C, so i'm not worried about lifting a trace and if i did, the ECU wouldnt work. I'm pickin up a spare P74 tonight to take my time with my current one and crack this bastard.
