I have a K24Z3 in a Miata running a KPro V4 serial #59559.
The car is a track car and runs fine… however, upon first start, if the check engine light is on, I now know that I have to insert a USB into the KPro port and then the ECU will cycle (car kinda misses when it reloads) and the car will be fine for a couple of sessions. The usb cable is not connected to the laptop… just used as a jiggle tool.
Also, when I have a laptop connected and monitor data or gauges, I can make it “stall” by wiggling the USB at the ECU.
Seems that the Kpro USB port is loose on the KPro board or maybe the entire KPro board is loose in the ECU?
What should I do or try? The insert and remove USB fix is working for now but gets annoying every other session while at the track. I just feel like one session it’s not gonna work!
K-Pro issue from loose USB port?
Re: K-Pro issue from loose USB port?
By “stall” I mean the gauges and sensors stall. The rpm will stop moving until I wiggled again.
Re: K-Pro issue from loose USB port?
I couldn’t resist and at the risk of voiding warranty for opening the case. Here’s what I found! One of the screws backed out and the Hondata board was sitting up so that the pins were barely in the sockets.
Pushed the board back down and a little blue loctite to both screws. The other screw was down but very loose.
All fixed! Laptop connects perfectly and is rock solid despite any wiggling of the USB.

You basically have to void the warranty to go external Wideband anyway :-)
C'mon Hondata, that's hardly fair.

Our warranty is not contingent on the ECU being unopened.
