Fg2 newbee question

Post by Yimmee »

Hey guys forgive me as I am new to the forum and overall tune for hondata. I just bought one for my 07 Civic si today. I only have a Yonaka cat back exhaust and nothing else. Any suggestions on if I can use the hondata safely right now or should I wait until I headers and cai. I’m sure many people asked this question but I am also new to forums itself lol. Any help would be awesome. Also 1 more thing. Currently I was trying to see if I didn’t tune if the hondata can run those data logs to see why my throttle response is a bit wonky. At times if I press the gas down and shift quick and pews throttle again it’s like it doesn’t register gas for a second and then picks back up. Hope that makes sense.

A Hondata FlashPro should be the first thing anyone purchases for these cars once they buy the car. You can tune it for the mods you have now and then retune it as you add mods. But there is no reason to buy it and not use it. I don't know why you would be feeling a "wonky" throttle. But you could be experiencing throttle dampening and perhaps rev hang, maybe even some traction control stuff. But the car shouldn't be odd like that. A datalog might help to see, not to mention tuning would probably fix the issue. Unless it's a legit mechanical issue, then you would need to address it physically.

Thanks man I really appreciate it. Any specific base map you would recommend I start with ?

Are you not running a Hondata calibration right now?

no nothing right now. I just hooked it up and did a data log with no calibrations on it. let me know what you think :). Plus I know you are like the most respected person I see on here. I appreciate all the help man and the insight you provide. Let me know if you see anything unhealthy or out of the norm lol

Yeah it's not terrible by any means, but it could use some work. How soon do you plan to add a header and intake? That would sort of determine which route to go and how much time to spend on it in current form.

Probably like the guy who has more time on his hands than other people than respected. :) I just like seeing you guys enjoying your car instead of worrying about things in the tune.

I am ordering headers and hybrid intake tomorrow. Just was itching to see if a current base map or something I can load in the meantime if waiting lol

Okay sounds good. Here is a calibration to get you going for right now as the new intake will require a completely different approach. So take this one for a spin, 20 minutes or so in length, and make at least one third gear wide open throttle (WOT) pull from 2500-8600 so we can see the WOT fuel too. It'll take a revision or two to get things really good.

Sweet I’ll load it when I get back home. Should I run a data log while I run it ?

My Man!! how did I ever not start this before lol.. anyways here is the data log after the one you gave me was uploaded. I have to say it was fun to drive and very tempting to hit vtec consecutively. let me know your thoughts and seeing if anything is off.

. Also with this calibration does it add more fuel or less. the acceleration was very responsive and shifting I'm assuming you eliminated the rev hang. shifting in this is super different and the pull back/catch from each gear before accelerating again is definitely there lol

Overall it looks good. I made some MAF scale adjustments for the part throttle fueling and a few WOT adjustments. But it was really close to start. We should be really close on this one if not right on.

I can't really say whether I added fuel or less fuel from your old calibration. I'd have to look at the tables from a stock calibration compared to mine. Either way though, it has pretty much the right amount of fuel as things are very close to being right on. Rev hang is eliminated and so is first gear throttle dampening. Both of those make a huge difference to the driving IMO. My calibrations also have a custom throttle pedal map, so the throttle pedal feels more direct than the OEM one. So it's probably a combination of a few things that make it feel like it does. In tuning, it's not one big thing that usually makes a noticeable difference, it's a bunch of little things together that help it drive better.

Anyways, it looks solid. Go ahead and make another datalog with this next calibration when you can. Try to run a third gear pull out to 8600 if you can. The best is a 2500-8600 pull in third gear if you can find the room. That way I can finalize all the WOT fuel stuff.

Sounds good. My email is in your calibrations in the “calibrations” tab. Glad you’re happy with it.

Looks really good. I only had to make a couple 1-3% changes to the WOT fuel, everything else looked solid. Go ahead and make another datalog whenever you want. It should be good, if so, we'll call it good for now until you get the intake and RH installed.
