MIL for a split second at redline

Post by jackanyon »

Hey everyone,

I’m having a very weird issue with D16Z6 turbo Civic with S300 V3. The car will drive absolutely fine and will rev freely all the way up to the redline, however when it hits the limiter, the MIL flashes for a split second.

Immediately I thought this was the shift light, however in my calibration the shift light is set to over 10,000rpm, my redline is about 7,300rpm.

I checked the onboard datalog and found what I think is the moment the MIL flashes. I have attached a picture of the full list of codes, but what concerns me most is that the datalog shows the RPM as 65,535, MAP as 935.8psi and the ECT as -40°c. Obviously thats incorrect.

I also have issues with smanager locking up and crashing almost constantly if the engine isn’t running.

To me it sounds like an installation issue with the S300 V3 itself. I don’t have access to another S300 or another car to test my ECU in so I’m a bit stuck.

Thanks for any input,
Jack.

What is the serial number that is on the s300 board inside the ECU?

Post the calibration used as well as datalog showing the issue.

Who installed the s300?

Is J12 cut on the ECU?

Are you using resistor or non-resistor type sparkplugs?

I put the s300 itself in, but I bought the ecu used already converted from someone who had an s300 in there previously.

J12 is cut.

Resistor type NGK BKR7E-11

Post pictures of the soldering that has been done on the bottom of the ECU for the s300.

Ah, looks like a bit of a rough job has been done. I expect this is likely the cause…

It looks like it has not been socketed well and that wire should not be there.

It looks as if that wire is there as the solder pad has been knocked off. Seems it goes to where the pcb trace leads to. Would you recommend replacing the ecu in this case?

That may be the best solution.
