VTC Cam Angle Not Always Hitting Target

Post by futureal33 »

Hello all,

Just a quick question regarding the VTC cam angles..

My Cam Angle High is set so that when in VTEC my VTC cam angle is 50degrees

However, on some datalogs it achieves 50 degrees and stays there, other time it will only get to 46/47degrees and not the full 50?

Is there a reason for this?

Thanks

Without seeing the calibration and a datalog showing the issue it's really hard to say.

Thanks for getting back to me again :)
I've attached the logs and map

This map is locked at 50degrees cam advance throughout to test out the best cam angle on dyno, but as you can see in the log, it didnt quite hit 50deg?

This looks fairly normal and you must remember that it is oil pressure that dictates the rotation of the cam gear and small fluctuation may cause it to move slightly. These small changes will have no effect on power.

Can I ask also on this topic, should I have the VTEC oil pressure switch enabled on a stock k20a?
It's disabled currently and I'm not sure?

Thanks

Does your engine have a VTEC oil pressure sensor?

I'm not sure, it's a JDM DC5 k20a

You will need to look at the vtec solenoid and see if it has a vtec oil pressure sensor.

Jdm DC5 does indeed has a oil pressure sensor. You can leave that enabled if you don’t remove it.

What's the benefit of having it checked Vs unchecked? It's currently unchecked and seems to be ok? Just curious
