Help with tuning my type r fn2

Post by M4rko »

Alright.. I have a type r fn2 stock except a hsk racing intake. I have just got a hondata and loaded the group n map but am getting 30+ knocks on a 20 min drive. What can I do to get rid of them and fine tune the map? I have attatched a datalog.
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Is yours a Euro model?

If it is, from my experience there is too much timing in the area of knock. Your datalog only recorded 5 of the 10 knock, so it's tough to tell where all the knock is happening perhaps. The ECU is trying to pull a lot of timing to remove the knock, and it's still not preventing it.

The knock you're getting is not something to be terribly worried about in theory, but it's so easy to stop the knock that it would be a poor decision not to address it. All of the knock is happening at low load, which is the least likely to knock. So in the high load areas, you may have more knock. Also, with the knock it's seeing, you are losing a lot of performance because the ECU is pulling timing throughout your drive to prevent knock from happening. When it's knock free, the ECU won't pull timing to proactively prevent knock from occurring, which gives you a smoother driving experience and more part throttle power. In the area of knock, it's trying to pull 11* of timing to prevent the knock which will hurt performance for sure. Once you get it knock free, it won't do that anymore.

I can help you remove the knock from occurring if you'd like, or I can help you tune it completely, whichever route you'd like to go. Removing the knock in either scenario shouldn't be difficult at all as long as it's not a mechanical issue.

That would be great if you could help me both with the knock and tuning. Thank you.

Sounds good. The proper way tune these will take around 10-12 revisions to get it dialed. If you're strapped for time, we can try to collect data a through fewer revisions and cut down the amount of overall revisions by a few if needed. Let me know if that works for you and we'll go from there.
